Non-Res Federal Lands

Your post is WILDLY incorrect.

Please point out where i in any way stated the feds are tracking harvest rates, doing aerial surveys, radio collaring game, or winter feeding?

Go on Dave, read it over a couple more times, digest it, think it over real carefully and then get back to me.

Do you know what obtuse means?

When you’re looking up the issue of who owns (and manages) wildlife on federal lands as per court ruling(s) LONG ago,…look that meaning up as well.

If you don’t believe the state manages wildlife, and now you’re implying you don’t believe the Feds do either…who do you think does?

All of the aforementioned methodologies (aerial surveys, radio collaring, winter feeding, etc.) ARE what constitutes game management. The state does those things…the Feds do NOT.

I’ll throw in enforcement responsibilities since the obvious seems to escape you. The STATE is responsible for enforcement of hunting/fishing laws as well.

Why you ask?…because they (animals) belong to the state. Thusly, their harvest and associated tag costs are the purview of the STATE…not the feds.

Not sure how to dumb this down anymore, so hopefully you can follow this line of logic. If not, best of luck getting laws changed in your non-native state I guess?

I’ll refer you to my prior post for the facts. Because you rambling on with the same old tired “the state does this or that” does not make it a fact they have any clue how many of x animal lives in the state to be able to manage.

Is there 500,000 deer, 1 million, 5 million? Yeah, the state knows it’s between 0 and 3 million. You, i or anybody else could give as good a guess by counting piles of crap, estimating x number of deer made that crap, then multiplying how many deer that would be per square mile, then multiply by square miles in the state.

BTW, they mostly don’t even do that anymore! Now it’s “we gave out this many tags and this many guys killed deer so we think there are this many deer”.

So i’ll emphasize this one last time. The state does NOT know how many elk, deer, moose, whatever are in the state. They manage tags and hunters, period.

Why are you complaining. I think you actually have it figured out! My tag is 61 dollars. Yours is 700. Seems like you make it up over and over and over. IMG_6191.png

Hahahaha…sounds like you have as pretty strong background in wildlife biology with your piles of crap counting theory. Masters? PhD maybe?

I notice you conveniently ignored all the other “non-counting” items I listed as functions of managing game. Good move since you don’t have a counter-point.

If you need to narrowly focus your argument on fish and game agencies needing to know EXACTLY how many animals reside in a state to justify charging you more as a non-resident,…I don’t like your odds in court to change the current status.

Or for that matter, the ability to overcome a flat tire on the side of a road. I bet you engage in a vigorous debate with the tire about the responsibilities for someone else to change it though!

You chose SD to live in partner, not me. Enjoy your pheasant hunting and break out that checkbook if you wanna come west my man…or keep complaining about the unfairness of it all on the internet.

Pretty sure he doesn’t live in Sodak.

Federal land. State animals! State land . All separate issues.

Pittman Robinson, etc are federal taxes on sporting goods. Last I heard was being spent on offices and bonuses for USFWS. Not the intent.

If it is really important- move to the state of your choice. Many of us already have.
lol there is no mechanism to pay a GS employee a “bonus”.

Kinda funny, all this talk is focused on people coming "out west" to hunt. I on the other hand, go east to hunt. I live in Washington and do most of my hunting in Missouri and Wisconsin, where it's cheap, I have a place to stay, have numerous private properties to hunt and kill a lot of animals. MT and WY, no more.

So do different rules for Federal Lands mean we buy licenses by state or just two (one state and one federal)? Also, does that mean we have one bag limit for federal or one for each state? :D

Windigo: Actually there is. In my later days with the gov as a GS-12, I was given bonuses that ranged from $500 - $1000. I think you could also be given step increases up to a level but I don't remember the details. I was in Interior and there may have been differant rules for differant deptartments.

Maybe it was the torture I was going through. At that time I had to review every EIS, Forest Plan and BLM plan in western US. I had to comment on how each one would impact the development of mineral resourses.

As a resident of a western state, please don’t move here.

If you’re talking monetary awards, I’d argue it’s a horse of a different color, but that’s just me. Regardless, it’d come out of whatever the discretionary appropriations are

Yeah that’s what I’m referring to, bonus/monetary award/time off award whatever term they use.
