Non-Res Federal Lands

Totally agree—if corner crossing is getting addressed, the next fight should be the non-res fees on federal land. These are everyone’s lands, and states still get federal funding. A separate lottery for federally managed land that treats all applicants the same makes sense. The current fee gap is getting out of hand.
Then go lie about your residency status and hunt federal lands so you can fight it out in court.

Federal lands available to hunt for all US residents. Get rid of non res fees if you’re hunting federal lands, period.

To the residents of said state if that makes ya angry hunt state owned land you’ll be with your fellow resident hunters only. Everyone wins!

You don’t have to pay fees to access federal lands as a non-resident…because the Feds manage the LAND. Feel free to hike, bird watch, bike, and otherwise enjoy those federal lands for the same price as residents…which is free about 99.9 percent of the time. Now ask yourself who manages the wildlife. Hint, it’s NOT the Feds.

Maybe think through your argument before flashing your ignorance for all the world to see?
The state manages hunters and license sales not animals. The states have no idea how many of X animals they have within their borders.

Why is it that so few relocate to a state that offers the hunting they desire?
Hunting was not the only factor in my decision to pack most of what I had into my pickup and move to Wyoming at 22 years old-But it was definitely one of the biggest ones! Boy has it paid off. I’m able to hunt something for the majority of the year if I want to without leaving my own state.

Umm, yes they do. Evert heard of winter counts.
This has been decided by the courts and with a federal law, like years ago.

That’s wildly incorrect.

You think the Feds are tracking harvest rates? You think the feds are flying winter, areal surveys? You think the feds are radio collaring game? Think the Feds are Conducting winter feeding?

Seriously my man…educate yourself.

Since this corner crossing issue may be getting fixed, is the next fight getting rid of non-res fees for hunting federally managed public lands?

Do state run agencies not also getting federal funding?

They should have a separate lottery for federally managed lands eliminating res and non-res applicants.

Pitch fork me…I don’t care. These fees to hunt are getting sickening.
Keep dreaming. I'm no lawyer but established case law clearly says that individual States have the authority/responsibility to manage their fish & wildlife as they see fit for the benefit of primary stakeholders (residents). Check out one of Randy Newberg's videos/podcast on this topic. Just because some Fed lands are within a State's boundaries doesn't suggest/mean that States should be compelled to have a special lottery for hunting on Fed lands as you suggest. Hey, I hunt as a NR in multiple Western states and for the most part have no problem with the system with the exception of rising tag fees and point creep. The corner crossing is a totally different issue.

For some wondering what the OP might be talking about. New Mexico requires you to purchase a habitat stamp to hunt federal lands. So in New Mexico you can’t hunt federal lands without paying a fee:

You are beating a dead horse. The founding documents of the US have addressed the reasons why. Along with numerous legal precedents since then to support it. States signed off on federal lands within their borders as a condition of statehood. Hunting and fishing community has much bigger issues and threats to be continually bickering over it.

They know and routinely publish how many animals.
Maybe but not in all cases. In many situations Arizona dropped doing field surveys and started to rely on just data and statistics. That’s a big reason the commission ordered the move towards mandatory harvest reporting when it was apparent that the data only approach wasn’t working (OTC Archery was a big one). Obviously I’ve simplified this and it doesn’t cover all of what’s going on in AZ just some of it.
