Anyone have any witch doctor type remedies for baby colic? We have switched everything and he is still very colicky at night.

How old? I can't imagine any infant being worse than my last kid. ~2-3 hours of broken sleep at night for weeks really took its toll on my wife and I.

If you have a good chiropractor that you trust that might be worth a try. One of my daughters had issues and our chiropractor helped.

Could be a whole number of things. Could be air bubbles in his stomach that haven’t come out yet. We had to use formula on all 3 of our kids because my wife couldn’t breast feed. Similac and Enfamil were terrible. We found Gerber sensitive or whatever it’s called to be the best. Also had to add Karro syrup sometimes to their bottles. There’s also a liquid to add to their bottles to help with air bubbles but I can’t remember what it’s called. Been a few years. 🤣 He could be out of alignment as well. Also, swaddling might help. We also played soft and soothing music and all 3 liked that.

Check and confirm the kid is not slightly tongue tied. My first had this and I was pissed to find out the initial nurse at the hospital did not catch it. Simple small snip on the bottom of the tongue made all the difference. If I remember right, the second nurse who found the tongue tie said the baby was not able to make a good seal, so the baby was ingesting too much air with it's milk.

He is 3 months, he does have a small tongue tie that has not hurt his latching. We went from sensative, to nutramigen from Enfamil.

My first kid was like this. Her tongue was tied as we had it fixed, no real improvement. Took hours to get to down to sleep at night and then it was awake an hour, sleep an hour back and forth all night. It was absolutely horrible and we thought we were the world’s worst parents because we couldn’t soothe her or comfort her. Somewhere around 9-12 months she just grew out of it. My point in sharing is to prepare you for the possibility that you might not be able to do anything about it. We tried everything. My second kid was the complete opposite. Good luck. I feel for you. My wife and I basically didn’t sleep more than an hour at a time for a year.

My first was similar to what Braaap describes. (sidebar: he and I just tag-teamed to kill a bull in first rifle this year... so they do grow out of it!).

Swaddling helped a lot.

Good luck!

We were told that our daughter’s colic was likely just a brain development thing and was in part due to her developing brain not being able to handle/process all the stimulation she experienced during the day. She eventually grew out of it.

Funny thing (if you can call it funny) is always happened on my shift when my wife was sleeping so she had no idea it ever happened.

Don’t be afraid to put your child down and walk away if you get frustrated with the situation. A guy I used to work with - as calm a person as I know - told me his infant with colic made him understand how shaken baby syndrome could be a thing.

Not much you can do except be vigilant about not shaking the formula too hard when mixing it and creating air bubbles. It’s gas. Their body will adjust in a few weeks. Until then, enjoy the suck and take turns with him. Have patience. Speaking from experience (2x) here. Good luck.

Our first, and right now our 5th had/have colic. The three in the middle never had it. I’ll second the chiropractor recommendation above. I’m not a believer for myself, but my wife takes our 2 month old about twice a week. The baby get adjusted, then on the way home has a giant blowout poop. That night she definitely seems less fussy. Good luck! I know exactly how stressful this can be. It doesn’t last forever though.

Our baby had gas issues. We laid him on his back between our knees and moved his legs in bicycle kick and squatting, it was like a month bout of it. Eventually he farted or burped and was calm again. Gripe water can help with the indigestion or gas. It's just anise or fennel.

Hope your baby gets some relief (you too).

My wife is an absolute saint in that regard. She had medical complications from the pregnancy, was somewhat immobilized. 9 months later he still needs mama every moment of every day. I would not have made it in her situation. God bless these mothers.

I sure wouldn’t ask for help with a colicky horse on here let alone my own get. Maybe a doc?

Doctors have their utility (I'm talking punch in, punch out, collecct paycheck types)... But second opinions and the wealth of knowledge and crazy rabbit holes have their place, as well .

Our pediatrician told us there's nothing you can do, it's normal and the cause is unknown. Mama tried a few things, and the aforementioned methods worked-it was just gas. Perhaps the op child has a different ailment, but reaching out beyond the official information gave both our child and the mother much needed relief and rest.

Doesn't hurt to reach out when you're at wits' end.

Well, these dudes will probably tell you to buy a tikka and that’ll fix it.

We had an awesome Asian market when the kids were young and they sold a Chinese version of baby gripe water that worked wonders for us. We had tried the domestic versions but none worked as well as the Chinese product.

Woodwards Gripe Water was the best “non-Asian” version we could find. I believe Woodwards was the original.
