I've never had the traverse pants, but I've owned a bunch of 5.11s. I've found out the hard way that they tend to shrink length wise when they are dried in the dryer, resulting in some awesome high waters. I only line dry them now. Just something to think about.

Unlike the rest of the COTTON based, 511 line the Traverse pants are synthetic and mine have had many washing and drying cycles and are still like they were when new.

Mine have only been washed once (to get the stink and blood of of them) but are the exact same fit after washing....if they get tighter its because I'm not working out enough and not because the pants are getting smaller ;)

I had to look it up, didn't know 5.11 made pants that didn't have at least some cotton. This is great news, I hate losing a good pair of pants to the shrink monster. Thanks.

Thanks for the review, Luke, now I'm gonna have to pick up a pair.

Which Clumbia pants do you have. I actually went to the Columbia Outlet today to look around but all the pants I saw didn't look like they would hold up to alot of abuse. They were a warm weather hiking pant with the zipper to turn them into shorts, which in warm conditions doesn't sound too bad

Columbia makes short people pants for folks like myself. My favorite pants now.

Sounds like maybe the Columbia Aruba IIIs? If so thats mainly all I hike in all summer long since 2005 and hunting in them extensively up until about 2011 when I thought I needed to be cool and using hunting brand pants. At roughly $30 (less than that if you got a coupon code) a pair I can use them all season long and them trash them if I wanted, but usually get 2 seasons or so per pair, but they last longer than that cause I get two pair and swap between them. Super lightweight so they dry faster than any hunting pants I've used and the zip off pant legs are indeed nice sometimes, except my white legs blind everyone around me

Here is a link to them:

Same ones?

Here is me last summer packing out my grizz wearing the cheapy but comfy and surprisingly durable pants:

They work for mountain goat hunting too:

And even in zip off mode (shield your eyes )

I ordered the 5.11 traverse pant over a week ago. I think they are on a boat in the ocean from China, lol. I can't wait to get them and try them out. i did wear the Kuhl Renegades and they are loud but light.

I have used the REI Endeavor Convertible pants as my go-to outdoor pants for the past year and have really enjoyed them. DWR, 4-way stretch (especially handy since they are a size too small but i got them 90% off at the REI Garage Sale!), zip-off at the knee plus a zipper from ankle to knee so boots can stay on when adding or removing, and really comfortable waistband for wear under a pack. They are breathable enough for wearing all summer, but sturdy/wind resistant enough for fall hunting as well. Here they are at the top of Quandary Peak (14,260) yesterday. The wind was pretty fierce on the hike up and at the peak, but I never felt the need to put on my shell pants (no long base layer underneath either, but the OR Crocs certainly get some credit). I would highly recommend these pants, especially if you have an REI dividend check in the mail or can wait until their big spring sale.
