Looking at getting a taller tripod for standing, backyard, range, camera and truck type uses. Would like to keep weight around 3-4 lbs and height fully extended at or over 67" I think that would be tall enough I'm 6'1". The slik 833 seems about right on, I would love an OD tall but not willing to spend that much. Curious what others are using, sorry "running". Thanks

The SR series from Sirui are fantastic. One of the most stable tripods on the market. Also one of our featured tripods this month for Rokslide members

For work I use a Magnus tripod. It’s sturdy and nice to use and it was much less expensive than hunting options.

I would have to look up the exact model but it’s a bit heavy but it’s not mean for backpacking either. A quick search makes me think it’s the VT 4000. They have less expensive models and the quality of the one I have would probably make me gamble on one of them if I needed a non backpacking one.

Why is weight a concern if you are not packing it?

I prefer tripods that get the height I need with leg length alone, not center column. Cameras and optics are more stable the closer they are to the apex of the tripod. Center columns add instability. Any instability adds vibration. Vibration causes blur. Blur causes eye strain. Even with the best optics on the planet.

My newest tripod I just bought is a Really Right Stuff TVC-34L MK2. It extends to 68.4" and weighs 4.55lbs. I am 6'7" and with the tripod head it is tall enough for me to stand behind and glass. I mainly bought it so I could shoot my rifle off it. I bought it gently used off eBay for a steal but it was still "expensive" to most people. I hardly ever pay retail for equipment. I search craigslist/eBay/forums for high end gently used equipment that I want. The deals are out there you just have to find them.

RRS, Pro Media Gear, Gitzo, manfrotto, induro, benro, all make quality tripods but they are not inexpensive.

Check out Two Vets Sporting Goods No Name Tripod. It will easily do all that you ask at a fraction of the price of an RRS.

Sirui has a carbon tripod that is not sold in the US it is sold in Asia and Australia and thus available on EBay. It is fantastic. It’s is the Sirui R-3213X. It is fantastic and a lot cheaper than the closet one sold in the US. Also comes with center column. I have one that I got off eBay and wish I had a 2nd.

I have a Slik 834 and it does great for my height (same as you). It also holds the big Swaro 95 steady.

Just because I am not planning on taking it on a multi day trip, I still don't want a drag around a boat anchor. 5-ish lbs or under is what i should've said. I am working on it, but I'm not quite ready for a 1k tripod.

Those are some good looking tripods, but still a little pricey for what I'm looking for right now.

I can get a slik 833 for $240, and I think it will serve my needs well for the time being. Thanks for all the responses. Keep the recommendations coming I know there are other folks out there looking for something similar.

I know it may be more than you want to spend but I'm currently using the new TwoVets QDT which is 5.2lbs. Fully extended, it's roughly 65" to the top of the bowl. It's built like a tank and I can easily hang from it at 180lbs, with no flexing in the legs. I also have a Feisol 3372 and have enjoyed that as well at 3.8lbs, however it's just not as beefy as the QDT. One of the big differences between the two are the leg sections and overall compactness collapsed. The Feisol is a 3 section and the QDT is a 2 section. Photos below show the collapsed 23" vs 35" and extended 58.5" vs 65" differences. Feisol is on the left.
