Higher letoff is not always a good thing. Deeper in the valley causes a delay in the arrow moving forward.

You will see most target archers will shoot between 18-22# holding weight. But to each his own.

No idea why each guy likes to shoot one way or the other but I have always thought that a lot of target shooters want low let-off is because most of them shoot a hinge/back pressure release and the added pressure helps with activation. I shoot a trigger so the extra pressure does not help me. I actually got better when I went to 90%.

I hold way better with my 80% bow than my 85%. Now to be fair they aren’t the same bow so it’s not a perfect comparison but I can honestly say I tend to shoot better with the lower let off bow.

Because lower letoff is more forgiving. You get 10# or less on the string at full draw and your nose will push that all over the place. If you get the chance, put a high letoff bow in a draw board and see how little resistance the string has to any pressure. It's like a limp noodle.

Now think about being in a tree, shooting an awkward angle where you might be contourted. You lean into the string a little too much ith your nose or cheek, twist with your release a bit more than usual. It really manipulates that string.

Bingo, I watched two dudes struggle sliding a peep at rest and knew they were friction fraying the string doing so. I told them to do it at full draw because the string is loosest then, and they looked at me like I was speaking wookie.

Actually about 60% of them shoot a thumb button. All releases including a wrist rocket should be shot with back tension.

Like I said, to each his own. But the ones that put food on their table shooting at the highest level in the world do not shoot high letoff.
