Who wants nitriding service?

We have a local nitriding service H&M West. I will be nitriding our own Tikka actions for sale.

When I take them a batch in January, if enough of you heathens request it, I can take as many of your action bodies and bolts you want to nitride. They have a fast turnaround, so I am thinking returned in 4-6 weeks max.

I am still working out cost. It is a pain to do the books for firearms, so I factor that stuff in.

You WILL have to strip the action and bolt of ALL pieces parts on your own. I don’t want to strip Tikka bolts… nor do I have time. So, it will be $1,000,000.00 if you ask me to take a bolt apart.

Should I bother?

Right now, only actions and bolts. I could do any action.

If enough want barrels too, then I can think about that. I am trying to keep it simple at first. Also, I asked only about actions and bolts, but @NSI has been doing actions and barrels.

How would you keep the actions/bolts/parts together, or would each person just get a replacement short action/long action/etc. lot of parts back? Not sure it actually matters.

People get their parts back.

Many parts like action and Tikka T3X bolts are already serialized. Howa bolts are engraved right under the bolt handle. Users might swap bolts, so I would have to record both when they come in.

The process I would copy from others who nitride is to engrave a small inconspicuous hidden mark when parts come in. Mark the last three serial number on bolts to match the action, mark breech faces in barrels, that sort of thing.

Part of the cost is the time to manage and track all that.

Any issues with doing just a receiver and not the bolt? Bolt is already stainless which is enough for me but I wouldn't hate for the receiver to be a bit more corrosion resistant.

I am interested in nitriding a stainless Tikka action and bolt, depending on cost and when you need them by for this batch.

Reasoning or advantage to only nitriding action?

Nothing big. Primarily that I dont want to disassemble/reassemble everything in my bolt and I'm not concerned with the stainless from a corrosion standpoint. I guess my question was more on if there was any reason stainless bolt on nitrided receiver was any less slick than nitride on nitride. I wouldn't think it'd be a notable difference.

When do you expect this to be happening? (selling nitrided actions on LS Armory)
For actions we are selling, I am sending my first batch of LS Armory actions to HM to be nitrided, and returned in December if their timeline holds.

The batch open to individuals will be in January some time (shooting off season for many) after craziness of these sales and commitments I already have.

There are no issues with that. That is one variation I am offering action body only. See below for why.
Apparently that is specifically what @NSI has been doing
@NSI is nitriding the action and DLC the bolt, which is what I am offering as an option on what I am selling. I think for someone who wants it all, this is the way to go. But, if they want corrosion resistance, the action alone is enough.

I guess I could offer for the bolt, nothing, nitride, or DLC.

This is where I fall. Stainless on nitride is not functionally an issue. If you want maximum slickness, then DLC the bolt like @ NSI.

RE: nitriding the bolt, I am also going to send our bolts to get DLC.

I can easily expand the offering to Nitride and DLC if enough people want to mix and match or do anything else.
