Who wants nitriding service?

We have a local nitriding service H&M West. I will be nitriding our own Tikka actions for sale.

When I take them a batch in January, if enough of you heathens request it, I can take as many of your action bodies and bolts you want to nitride. They have a fast turnaround, so I am thinking returned in 4-6 weeks max.

I am still working out cost. It is a pain to do the books for firearms, so I factor that stuff in.

You WILL have to strip the action and bolt of ALL pieces parts on your own. I don’t want to strip Tikka bolts… nor do I have time. So, it will be $1,000,000.00 if you ask me to take a bolt apart.

Should I bother?

Right now, only actions and bolts. I could do any action.

If enough want barrels too, then I can think about that. I am trying to keep it simple at first. Also, I asked only about actions and bolts, but @NSI has been doing actions and barrels.

How would you keep the actions/bolts/parts together, or would each person just get a replacement short action/long action/etc. lot of parts back? Not sure it actually matters.

People get their parts back.

Many parts like action and Tikka T3X bolts are already serialized. Howa bolts are engraved right under the bolt handle. Users might swap bolts, so I would have to record both when they come in.

The process I would copy from others who nitride is to engrave a small inconspicuous hidden mark when parts come in. Mark the last three serial number on bolts to match the action, mark breech faces in barrels, that sort of thing.

Part of the cost is the time to manage and track all that.
