Counting rifle and spotter along with 9 days food thats not bad at all.

X2 and it's an 80mm spotter to boot!
Are you guys packing two spotters? If not I'd split the tripod and spotter with him. Other than that looks good, food could be a bit lighter maybe but quality food is worth weight to me.

I'm under 2 lbs per day, and over 100 calories per ounce, what would you replace?

Unless you are hunting through you can cashe the food and extra clothing then you are really tuned up. For nine days I wouldn't go cutting anything. You'll need that gas for your tank.

Looks pretty good to me. I think 60 for 9-10 days is right there. Always seems like I'll be lighter, but when its all said and done, the pack weighs 60-65ish.

I always try to go with someone who brings extra stuff and extra food. Keeps my pack lighter....

I could eat cold food and dump the cooking fuel, pot, and stove.

But I'm ok carrying that in for Hot food. The weight will be diminished by the end of the trip. I could ditch water purification and bladders, but I'd like to not be trekking up and down more then I have to. But I'd rather carry the weight then risk getting sick.

So there is weight that could be cut, I'm just choosing not to.

I could also go to one gun between us, but I'd rather not watch helplessly as an animal walks by trying to get Scott over for a shot, or vice versa.

So there is room to go ultra light, but I'm pretty happy with this setup. Not saying I won't eventually change my mind, but so far in my limited experience, this setup works well.

Mate, don't get too caught up in the ultra light bs, people cutting of strapping on packs only to then stuff their packs with 'pop tarts' and rain gear is madness. Rain gear is a real cracker, fact is, YOU are going to get wet and be uncomfortable if it rains, plus side is you can get some sort of comfort back at camp.

If you are keen on getting lighter, ditch all the superfluous food items and rain gear, they are just not needed.

Have a good trip, look fwd to reading about the adventure, most important part, enjoy yourself.

The problem with thinking weight doesn't matter is that you are too heavy when you try to get the animal out.

At 60 lbs. going in, you will be taking two trips out with a mule deer.

Rain gear is pretty much a must have in the PNW so I would keep that.

I'm not saying to throw anything out. I'm saying it seems heavy since you don't also have the shelter.

At the end of day nine, it will be around 45 (less as water gets lighter).
