NFA Approval after January 1

You purchased a suppressor in September, but didn't complete the SilencerShop portion of the submission until December 30th?

Did you pay for a tax stamp for the suppressor you purchased in September or did you hold submission until Jan 1? I think ATF stopped accepting submissions a week or so prior to Jan 1, I wonder if yours is just lost in the shuffle. All of my SS review's have been completed usually within 24-48 hours.

Can you go to your local SS dealer and have them bump them on the status?
No, it was delayed processing so that tax stamp would be free. They opened processing for those who opted for delayed processing to get the free tax stamp on Dec 30 or 31st. Don’t recall which day exactly.

Mine isn’t an issue with the ATF at all. It’s all an issue with SS. They haven’t even sent it to me to certify yet. It’s just been “in review” which is supposedly when they check to make sure everything is good before having it be certified. But like I said, I have been unable to speak to an actual person at SS since the issue began. Only their AI assistant which just tells me everything is normal and will be processed shortly

That’s weak sauce. I bought my first suppressor through them, and have generally considered them a good place to use for a first suppressor as they do a good job of breaking down the process. But I’ve heard and believe that comes at a cost of not being as efficient or fast.

Your experience isn’t good, and is probably partly due to their simplified newbie process. Your inability to reach them for resolution is unacceptable. Good luck. Hopefully you get it figured out soon

Have you confirmed with your dealer that they aren't the hold up? SS is preparing the paperwork for the dealer to transfer the can to you. You have to go in and approve the draft of that paperwork, I presume the dealer also does. After the draft is approved then it transitions to ready to certify. Unless they had a glitch in their system it could be your dealer hasn't approved the draft?

If by chance you're talking about the step where they send you the draft hasn't even happened yet, is your account still up to date? IE you need to upload a photo annually, if you're missing that part they can't proceed to the next step.

Haven’t thought about that, and it’s definitely a possibility. My dealer is pretty lazy, not someone who goes out of their way to get a sale. They’re nice, but they don’t do much. They close at 5pm on weekdays and are closed on Sundays and only half days on Saturday. Literally the worst hours possible for a gun store if they actually wanted to be successful.

I asked him how much a gun was in their display case, and he responded “I'm not sure off the top of my head.” We then stared at each other for 15 seconds with not another word said before he went to talk to another customer. Not even a “I’ll go check”

This one got a laugh / head shake.
I also can’t help but laugh thinking about it.

What’s really funny is I’d take that interaction over most of the other interactions that I’ve had with gun store employees. I swear one of the job requirements to be a gun store employee is that you can only give second hand advice that was obtained from a Facebook comment section.

My account is definitely up to date though since I just created it in September when I made the purchase. My profile also says that no additional information is needed from me or the other members in my trust

I submitted eform 4 on 1/2 and haven’t gotten approval yet. This is my first time going through the NFA process. I see some of you have gotten approved significantly faster. Is there something I should do to look into this?

my first took over 400 days. Sometimes it just takes longer

Related to this post but probably not the issue directly, I just read that ATF now requires a photo that is less than 6 months old.

Im already looking at getting another and I think the next one will come from Capitol Armory.
They seem to make things much much easier.
I already ordered an at home fingerprint kit and plan to do the next one in a Trust.

I like Capital Armory much better than SS. It’s impressive how you can go through the whole process and never leave your house.

I seem to recall their trusts might be a little more expensive though. I got and recommend SS trusts, and have recently seen nationalguntrusts and they seem like they could be a good option.

Expect a month extra on the front end and back end with them. Otherwise they are very convenient

Submitted 1/20 as an individual
Approved 2/1

I never received the approval email from the eforms website but on 2/6, I got an email from SS saying that my can was awaiting my pickup. When I talked to the guy at the gun shop, he said that not getting the government email has been halfway common since 1/1.

Just a heads up to those who are waiting.
