NF NX6

Well I finally got out for a very short range session with the new 3-18 NX6. After a quick site in at 100, I did a two shot group then racked the turret back and forth and then up to 24 mil then back to zero and shot two more. Looks pretty good to me! I think the image is better than the NX8. Especially the parallax focus!

How is the FOV? Any tunneling or scope shadow?

FOV was great. Zero issues there. I did not notice any tunneling or shadow but I didn't spend much time on it though as I was rushed and it was pretty warm outside and mirage was getting bad. I will try to get behind it some more soon and take notes. In general it was bright and crisp. The new zero stop, once working, is quite nice!

I got my 2-12 Mrad in today. Initial impressions are that the reticle is not my favorite, mostly the circle dot center worries me about being less focused. That said I’ll reserve strong opinions until I shoot it. Mil-C for life as far as I’m concerned.

It’s a fair bit chunkier looking than the NXS 2.5-10x42. It looks more like a NX8 2.5-20 to me.

The new scope caps are just like the vortex caps and are no longer tenebraex. They will need electrical tapped in place or replaced with scope bumpers.

The eye box does seem more forgiving during setup than an NX8 2.5-20.

Nightforce finally includes a good sticker pack in the box.

Seeing it in person I think the 3-18x50 Mil-c might be a better scope at a 4 oz weight penalty for me.

I picked up a 3-18 at a store today, they had several models. Hate to hear there are people still waiting that preordered, seems like quite a few in stock online and some brick and mortar stores.

Good to know on the 2-12, that was my concern as well. Is the elevation dial alright? Heard it was a bit mushier.
I just picked up a 2.5-10 NXS.. I'm a real fan of the 4-16 atacr.

Ffp or 2nd?

Pretty hard to beat a NXS 2.5-10x42 in Mil-R. The 4-16 ATACR in Mil-R is pretty hard to beat if you don’t mind the weight and chonk.

I have a few scopes with the FC-DMX reticle and I’m curious to see how the MRX squares up. I don’t think it will be perfect but I’m sure I’ll prefer it over the Mil-C but I’ll have to wait and see

For those of you with 2-12 or 3-18 and Mil-C… at what power does the reticle actually become visible enough to use in broken terrain? Both with and without the light on.

While these are not the best photos. Actual images through scope are far better than these photos. Here are some of the reticle at x3, x6, x12, x18
Tree line is exactly at 175 yards

Thanks. Thats helpful. Is there a red illum option? I’d imagine red on 3x would surely show up better against that background.

Based off a NX8 with Mil XT and Mil C I’d say 6x. You can do it on 2.5 or 4x depending on the scope but it’s quite faint and really depends on the backdrop. 6 seems to be a hair better on both scopes.

It will do red or green. I had it on red then it switched to green while I was fiddlin with it. I didn't change it back. Honestly, I think the green was more visible than the red.

To me the reticle at x3 looks more usable than the NX8 at 2.5, thought not by much. Both would suffer in wooded or mixed terrain areas without illumination. As long as you can tap the button on the left you are good to go at any power to make a shot.

I already own a NX8. For me, it’s not usable until at least 6X. I was hoping the NX6 would be better being a lower power erector.

Seems better to me than the NX8 and depending on your eyes you can see the reticle fine at x3 but in low light or in shadows, no way. You'd have to crank it up or use illumination. Probably not going to find it much better than the NX8. If they would have simply moved to 5 mils of windage as oppose to 10 mils and had heavier posts you'd be able to use it without issue. Sadly, when you look at NF website the photo for the NX6 and NX8 for the Mil-C show only 5 mils each side for windage. The photo is not accurate and is a big disappointment when that is what you expected. It would have made all the difference.

Yes, well known that they blew it bad on the reticles.

I know just looking at this reticle I’d rather have it as a general purpose scope/reticle compared to anything in Mil-C.

It’s similar to the FC-DMX and the stadia are far more visible/thicker. You can at least line it up and let it rip

I don’t expect it to have 1-8 NX8 or ATACR illumination though. Daylight the general NF red works better than the green. Swap that for lower light conditions I much prefer the green.

Are there better reticles, yes absolutely. But it’s a trade off for everything. I’ll live with these and look forward to the arrival of this little scope.
