Newberg says a $40 elk tag (or whatever it cost) is a $25,000 elk tag for residents.

If you guys are gonna leave grouse season open and let me get a license for $100, I’m still gonna come out and crowd the trailheads during September, enjoy the outdoors and let the super hunters fight over the deer and elk.
I wonder how many others feel this way. 🤷‍♂️
More power to ya! I just hope our current political situation doesn’t ruin that too! That’s my my answer to your question earlier, local politics is my concern.

And then I don’t have a $700 burden on my back and I can damn near take another weeks vacation.

If you’ve got a homie, you can pick your roommate.
But if not, you could get roach.
And that mf ain’t showered since nam and he’s f’d up on way more than $60 a week worth of chron.
You're reminding me of working for the FS on trail crew, living out of my car and loving every single second. I lived a vagrant life for like 6-7 years working trails, wilderness ranger, wildlife and fisheries jobs. God I miss those days

Newberg is full of it. That tag didn't cost him what he "so calls says" it cost him. He and his wife made a PERSONAL choice to move. He didn't even have to buy a tag! That CHOICE cost him. He does put out some decent videos though.

By comparing it to Cheyenne or Boise, you clearly know nothing about how expensive Bozeman is...

Median Home Price January 2024:

Cheyenne - $425,000
Boise - 495,000
Bozeman - $762,000

Not all Western states are the same, and certainly not all Western towns and cities are the same. When I came to Bozeman over 30 years ago the saying was " half the paycheck is the view." Wages were LOW here for many years, and only recently have caught up with other comparably sized towns of 50K people. Having said that, my daughter is a nurse but can't really afford to live here where she was raised. She lives in Billings because the pay is more there than here, and housing is significantly less.
Fair enough, point still stands there's plenty of cities in Western states that aren't more expensive than average and jobs can be found.

Western deer and elk hunting and the west in general have been whored out to the point that it’s just not cool anymore.
I have no issue telling people I’m a squirrel hunter, but it embarrasses me to tell people that I dabble with western hunting to the point that I don’t even bring it up in outdoor related conversations.
I’m so sick of seeing my fellow millennials dressed in $500 outfits, toting $1000’s of dollars of gear with 5 of their friends filming themselves and talking about how uncomfortable they’re making themselves and how far they’re pushing their limits.
You sat on your ass and tricked a goat, Brady. It’s not that impressive.
I hope everyone who’s sick for their brown can draw a tag, “e-scout” 😆, put on their fancy outfits and congregate at the trailheads every September and look super cool.
Make your own adventure.
Western hunting is #PLAYED

Running, hiking, skiing, biking, I’ve never had a user conflict with anyone.
Hunting... yep.
“Hey! Hey! What in the hell are you doing?!?! You can’t be blowing that bugle down here this early in the season! You’re gonna blow everything out!”
“Well what about 2 years ago when I called one in on opening day?”
“Psh bro, yeah right. My family’s been hunting this area and feeding ourselves by living off the government tit for generations.
We own a cabin at the end of the trail 1mi away that me and my 2 other friends are staying in.”
“cool story bro”
“Didn’t you see our tent that we’re not staying in?!?! When you see a tent like that, it means someone’s hunting that area and you need to go some place else”
“Well, where were you guys when that bull was standing 200 yards from that tent at 1pm yesterday?”
Jaw drops...

He probably did take a pay cut to move to 1991 Bozeman.
I don't know if you can still use that argument in 2024 Bozeman??

Websites are telling me that where I live the average salary is 1k higher than Bozeman - and I live in what most would consider a very high paying area.

You have to have a marketable skill in the area in which you choose to live.

We should get a stipend in Hendersonville NC ,for being so close to Assville and all the damn hippies and trash dumps that are there. I could use it to pay 2025.00 for my Wyoming elk tag.

You didn't allocate enough for Tinder dates.
Just kill a few more bulls then drive north. Why wait? Seriously.
Because I have common sense, I’m a realist and quite frankly, I’m not ready for it.
Here’s some food for thought.
Why is this guy applying for multiple states?
He’s been hunting for 2 years.
The first year, he got sick and had to come home early.
Surprise.
Last year he dropped a wheel off in the ditch in his brand brand new tundra, didn’t have chains or a winch or any safety equipment that common sense would tell you is required for navigating the mountains in the snow and he literally hit the SOS button on his inreach!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
He then went on to shoot a cow whilst sitting on the lap of another ht member who’s actually a really cool guy.
Why tf is this guy applying in multiple states?
He can get the mountain experience in his home state.
He can hunt deer and elk in his home state.
But Randy Newberg told him he needs to apply in every single state if he’s gonna be a super hunter so he applies in every single state because Randy Newberg told him to and because it’s the good old American way.
And don’t worry, he’s gonna write his senators because he’s been hunting 2 years and he’s important god damnit!!!
Ps check out that sweet profile pic looking hard af

Wow, quite the rant. Ever occur to you to be your own man and hunt your own way? There are plenty of us in the West that hunt solo, don't watch Youtube or Instagram hunting videos, have never seen a Randy Newberg show, don't wear camo, don't have the obligatory binocular chest pouch, aren't packing a Glock because of big bad bears, and in fact, have never bought one single piece of clothing made by a hunting specific Co.

Good grief...

You know what's funny about parts of this thread anyway. I chose to uproot my family, move 1,000 miles for the company I work for, then get 4 promotions to get to where I am financially, plus live in a pretty kick ass area. Anyone who would rather spend time crying on the Internet about how others have it better might want to move to a different country where socialism and communism are welcome. Otherwise take all this time your spending b#tching and get out there and kick some ass and do something about your chit situation.
