The Conquest HD was made in Japan too.One has to wonder how the market will respond to the HDX being made in Japan vs the HD made in Germany. I would think Kamakura makes both models anyway.

Indeed it was, but stamped "Made in Germany."The Conquest HD was made in Japan too.
I was eagerly looking forward to this release and this review, but they sound kind of middling compared to the Mavens......
I've been DEEP DIVING shall we say on this segment of the market recently, and it looks like the Mavens or GPOs are still the ones to go for (and I'm leaning toward the Mavens due to the FOV and weight advantage).Kind of sounds like a nice update to the current HDs but nothing ground breaking

If you are willing to spend a few hundred more, I would think Vortex UHD'S (used or refurbished) or used Swarovski SLC'S would surpass anything in this discussion. Unfortunately, the AK prisms make the UHD'S quite a bit larger.I've been DEEP DIVING shall we say on this segment of the market recently, and it looks like the Mavens or GPOs are still the ones to go for (and I'm leaning toward the Mavens due to the FOV and weight advantage).

matt, in the review, you said that the optical performance of the HDX was better than the HD. But the example you gave was 2 feet at 1000 yards. given that the HD was made in Germany and these in Japan, is the glass in the HDX better? What do you mean by "improvement in optical performance"?The Monarch HG and Maven B1.2 are very similar in optical performance with the HG adding a little extra FOV, so the comparisons apply similarly.
The Monarch HG’s eyecups are not removeable, however.
Hard to improve on the OG Conquest HD. Tremendous performance to value.
I took a look at a pre-release sample of the new Conquest HDX 10X42 binocular.
At under $1000 retail, this is by far the most competitive part of the market. Zeiss threw a lot of features at the Conquest HDX in hopes of competing at the very top of the segment.

I put the Conquest HDX up against stiff competition in one of the class-leading options at the price point: the Maven B1.2.

@Matt Cashell did you have a final conclusion of which you preferred between the b1.2 and HDX?

Second, I'm trying to decide whether to get a rangefinding bino or just upgrade my bino and keep the rangefinder. If the HD is great, and can be had in the $600 range, it might ber worth going that route for a 1 week per yr hunter like me. I used UHD Razors this last hunt and really liked them.
I'm debating getting range finding Geovids vs. conquests or UHD's.
