So is hunting a water hole fair chase or an alfalfa field or a food plot or a corn field what about an apple tree that is just dropping apples off it. It’s all the same thing as dumping out a bucket of apples just on a larger scale your using something the animal needs to kill it which is the goal of hunting.

I guess the pictures with the Christmas lights look pretty neighborhoody... I am admittedly unfamiliar with the area.

I haven't thought any one in this thread was jealous of it. There's significant difference between jealousy and disapproval.

When these things appear questionable and get publicized to great extents, it's a bad look. If that guy had kept it low-key, very few people would know and there would be no scrutiny. Instead, he greenlights his insta kid to post it with a bunch of tags, does OL articles, and podcast about it.

Like I said, I'm sure he's a nice guy, this just seems like a weird scenario to publicize.

Bull was wandering after getting bumped out of its usual hideouts twice. It’s a rural area with cabins and 10-60 acre lots, lots of guys feed there.

If that bull would’ve not been the world record, no one would’ve heard about it except Casey’s close friends.

He kills a lot of critters that never see the screens of the internet.

Just adding to the spirit of this entire thread, which is dumb and silly, with some light hearted yaki-talk, I’m sorry if it has offended your town, or tribe. We can do a land acknowledgment if that makes you feel better?

Having attempted unsuccessfully to bait elk and deer in Oregon and Washington a few times, I’ll take a waterhole or alfalfa field 10 out of 10 times over a bait pile.

People who think it’s cheating most of the time have never done it.

what a bunch of elitist self-righteous blowhards on this thread. wash and oregon allow baiting. so what? so do a lot of other states. get over it. it is legal elk that took the dude the whole season to shoot so it couldn't have been to easy. it will probably be crowned the world record. if i had that kind of money i would be a huntin fool too.

Reading this thread, I've felt the same way. Therehas been guys here unhappy or however you want to describe it, because he has money. Also because he hunted over bait and used cameras and a team of people to help him. All of this stuff is legal, not immoral or IMO unethical.

If people don't like the way this animal was killed, then lobby to get laws changed. But even if the laws stay the same, it won't effect anyone here hunting in that state. It's your choice to use a camera, or bait.

I can't count how many times someone on here has something negative to say about this guy because he has some money. Quite disappointing. He must be evil because he accumulated some wealth. Or he must have cheated somehow.

This is true during a regular hunting season, but unfortunately, in Kittitas and Yakima counties we have democratic Elk the first snowfall hits, and they all show up to the lowland feeding stations and private for a free handout, which makes it easy to hunt off bait if you have a special or a late tag.

The guy knows how to hunt, no doubt about that. Elk killer for sure. You can't argue that. Anyone who kills the NA29 with a bow is not a rookie no matter how much money they have. That is a tremendous feat.

My only turn off with guys like him are the continuous rant about scores. When it becomes the primary topic of discussion, I have to admit, I was getting bored with the podcast (I was on a 8 hour flight). I've been around guys like that at banquets, camps, etc. and it really sours me.

That’s just because you want to justify it to your self. If you look at it from an objective view point there is no difference. It’s using some thing to gain an advantage to kill an animal.

So just to clarify, you're saying that a watering hole in an animals natural habitat (say on forest service land) and a bucket of apples/hay put out in a subdivision on private property in a wintering ground is the same thing?
