Has anyone handled one of the new Winnie's assembled in Portugal? I'm a Winchester nut but having a hard time with this decision to make the parts here in the states then ship them to Portugal to be assembled then shipped back. Hopefully they are improvements over an already awesome rifle in the FN built guns.

Have you looked at them? The new Winchester Model 70 rifles assembled in Portugal are wonderfully made and have excellent wood. They are really classics.

JOC model 70 Custom Tribute
BACO Model 70 30/06 Limited Deluxe
NH XTR Model 70 300 Winchester Magnum
BACO Model 70 EW Sporter 270WSM
NH Model 70 SS 375HH Classic
NH Model 70 Classic Featherweight 270 Win

If the BARCO model 70's being assembled in Portugal bothers you then check out Montana Rifle Co. I'm going to buy one of their actions for my next project. It's Basically a Model 70 but a little better imo. The extractor cut and cone is integrated into the action so there is no extractor cut in the barrel. Same trigger , safety , flat bottomed action , and bolt as a Model 70. I wouldn't worry about the quality of the Portuguese assembly . I had a BARCO shotgun assembled there and the fit and wood was exceptional.

I havent come across one yet, have seen a few on Gunbroker, unfortunatly the days of the gun stores with walls full of beautiful long guns are over here in the midwest, Cabelas or Basspro is the only game in town with a selection so I havent been able to paw at one. I have seen the Montana's online and they look nice, would you rate them a step above Kimber? I just gotta have CRF and the 3 position safety, I guess this day in age its kinda silly to "need" it made in USA, but it still is important to me, just cant help it.
