New Trucks

I'm old school, the biggest motor, followed by the lowest gears you can get, followed by cruise control, largest brake system don't forget rotors, then, trailer brakes, then mud grips. Now, you also have to decide 4x4 or 2x4 with positive traction, don't leave out 2x4 with positive traction. Here in our gumbo mud, I do 4x4 and run mud grips year round. A truck is for use, a car is for driving and fun. You want to go on a family trip, use the wife's SUV.

I picked up a 2023 Frontier 4 door long bed last year and am very pleased with it. Everyone has their own likes/dislikes, but it does everything I want...and fits in the garage!!

I had a 15 f150 with the then new 2.7 and now have a 22 with a 3.5 both ECO's.

The 2.7 is just as fast in all aspects as the 3.5 IMO and both have the same 3.55 gears. It would tow an average size bay boat fairly well but not nearly as well as the 3.5.

Only issue with the 2.7 was a leaking oil pan which was a chronic issue at the time. It wasn't more than a seep but a pain. I had it replaced under warranty and it started leaking 6 months later. I had it 7 years and 185k on with no other issues.

The 2.7 will get slightly better fuel economy when empty at all speeds vs the 3.5. They both suck gas like a big block when loaded with a trailer. :)

Silverado 3.0 liter diesel has been a great truck for many. I would trust it over the 5.3 or 6.2. Outside of that I would probably look into the new tundra with the hybrid

It is because of stuff like this I am keeping my 2017 4 runner for another 10 years.

On topic my buddy just got a 2024 gmc 1500 loaded out with their small diesel in it. Runs great and has plenty of power when not towing. Tows his 26 or 28 foot bay boat just fine but the gas mileage when towing was not impressive. Maybe 15-16 mpg. Gas mileage on hwy non towing is like 27-28 ish.

He has a 100 k power train warranty. Probably a good call.
That 100k power train warranty comes with it at no xtra cost because it’s a diesel.

Get the F-150 powerboost hybrid. More power and towing than the 3.5 ecoboost and 20+ mpg. Got a 2024 a few months ago with the 6.5 ft bed. Averaging 22 mpg overall with mix of hwy, dirt road, state hwy at between 5,000 and 9,000 ft elevation. Minimal towing so far.

Picked up a new 2024 F150 with the 2.7 last August. I have always been a V8 guy and was very skeptical when looking at new trucks with six-cylinder motors. I am pleased to say that I am more than happy with the 2.7 so far and it is a fun truck to drive.

I really believe there isn’t a decent truck manufactured today. I’m looking very hard at the low mileage used offerings. 2010-2013 Chevy Silverados are a real bargain. Southern vehicles with 40-50k for $18,000-22,000 are out there. With the 5.3 this is a better truck far and away than anything produced today. The 2014-2017 Tundras with the 5.7 are bulletproof and way more dependable than anything offered currently. The Tundra is going to be more money than the Silverado, but WAY less than the price tag on a new clunker.

The frontier is nice, the second gen, albeit was long in the tooth, is incredibly reliable when you get to the post 2011 builds.
