Nick, which tacoma did you get? I want a 6 foot bet. How are you liking the gas milage and how much did you pay for it?

I just bought a 13 crew cab long bed taco. I gave 30k but it's the limited package. Love it!

I'm getting 16-19 in mine mileage wise.

My 13 Crew Cab long bed Tacoma has over sized tires and a 3" lift and I am getting 18 miles per gallon that's more highway driving than in town.

It's a 4 wheel drive truck so mileage is going to suck anyway! I love the power of my 5.7 tundra and I can sleep under the cap!

What year Taco are you guys in? Its starting to seem like the best investment as far as a fuel efficient truck goes. Sure they are more expensive now, but dont they seem to hold their value better? Im just trying to figure out which models come with a 6 foot bed.

ford ecobeast. more power than you'll prlly ever need and 21 mpg highway with 4X4 and 3.73 rear end. and you can practically pitch a megatarp in the crew cab:)

I have a 2012 ford F-150 super crew with a 2.5'' lift and bigger tires and its getting 16.8-19.4 mpg bepending on the wind and driving conditions. It has the 5 liter engine with plenty of power

Which Ford 4x4 gets 21mpg hwy??

the 3.5 liter twinturbo ecoboost gets 21 highway with 4 wheel drive. i have a 3.73 rear end and usually get 21.7 highway. you could easily get 22 with a 3.55 rear end. if you don't need 365 horsepower and 420 ft/lb of torque the 3.7 liter v6 non turbo is supposed to get better gas mileage. I've always been a toyota guy but like the cab/bed config ford offered with the ecoboost engine. you can still get a 6.5 ft bed with the four door crew cab

Best thing I ever did was buy my first Dodge Cummins, a 99 5.9L 2500.
I threw a cheap $500 camper on it that I bought off a buddy and the family has never looked back. No more tent camping (although I still like the wall tent), and kitchen already setup & fridg always cold. Loved that truck, but as the campers got bigger and the kids grew, I needed a full 4door 1ton.

Fell into a sweet deal on a 08 6.7L 3500 w/ the AT and OMG, what a truck! Even better gas mileage. I'm seeing 21mpg routinely on the highway empty and 14-16 w/ the camper & boat on the flat. Hit the cruise control and go, really like'n the AT.
Sold the old truck & camper for more than I paid, and re-invested in a larger newer camper.
Wife is REALLY happy now.

And a full 8ft bed w/ side racks & canvas tarp means I can sleep in total covered comfort even w/o the camper.
Forget the short boxes, get a real truck.

If you drive distance everyday (20-30 miles one way) and are mechanically inclined, I would go diesel. I just sold a '01 5.9L and went gas because I did not drive it like it needs. If you were to go 5.9L cummins it would be best to stay '03 - early production '07. These trucks have no re-burn systems and a better injection pump. You can make those 5.9L's do crazy numbers and stay reasonable on budget. That could be an issue if you have to pass smog/ emissions testing though.

You could also look at it like this... get a car, and pimp the Tahoe for hunting!

My 2002 4WD Toyota Tundra is still going strong (knock-on-wood). I've only got it stuck once and that was due to operator error. It has made 3 hunting trips to South Dakota and two to Colorado. It will be making another trip to CO to hunt elk in 2 weeks. It has made countless trips all around Oklahoma and several to the TX Panhandle for deer and hog hunts. When my Tundra gives up the ghost, I'd buy another Tundra or Tacoma without another thought. It has just under 95,000 miles but, many were hard, off road miles.

Have had great luck with 4 tacos here and will continue to purchase in the future. Currently driving 06 4cyl that gets 24 ish. For me their reliability is key and yes they hold their value very well when you go to sell or trade.

Go find a 98-02 dodge ram with a cummins in it that someone has taken care of. 20MPG solid front axle and just all around great trucks.

I second this. I have owned a 99 24v Cummins for the last 8 years. It is as solid as they come. Has 290k miles and not hint of slowing down. I get 21 mpg on the freeway and 18-19 in town. When I have the Alaskan Camper in the bed I still get about 17 and that is with 35 inch tires. THe only issue is the front end. It needs to be tightened up otherwise you need new balljoints with every oil change. Also watch out for the VP44 (injection pump). It is finicky and needs constant and high fuel pressure or it will burn up. I mounted an exterior fuel pump at my tank to make sure fuel pressure is taken care of and have a gauge in the cab to monitor.

02 Taco 4 DR for me right now. Been really considering the Ecoboost, but the one I want is $54K and no way I am paying that for any truck.

I hate how loud older Dodge Diesels are. Even just idling they sound like a freight train. Not to mention they ride worse then an Abram tank. I like the stealthy Taco.
