New Swarovski from Cabelas. They sent a display box.

This. It would be one thing if there was no warranty due to being a demo. But Swarovski will likely rebuild them for you - and probably more than once - over the life of the binoculars if you have problems.
Doubt they were a swaro show demo, the box was probably stamped that because Cabelas had the binos sitting in their own display case and so they could easily find the box if purchased. Swaro wouldn’t know if they were in a Cabelas display case.
 
White box with a green sleeve. There shouldn’t be any tape or anything holding the sleeve to the box.

It was most likely a display model. Not many stores carry more than one, unless they sell them regularly.
Yeah based on the smudges on the body of the scope it was likely a demo. They said they'd consider a discount off my order if I provide pics of the packaging and scope. It doesn't really look used so it might not yield much. They also offered to replace it with a new one. So their service was at least decent.

Most likely. I would take optics like that out of the package to check them before I back stocked them. Saved us from sending out defective out the box stuff out the door only to have it returned. There is potential for that causing the smudges.

I would take the discount. How do you know your getting a brand new one if you send it back?
 
If you boought them at the store would you refuse the ones in the glass case? I bought scope from under the glass. I was looking at scopes at local shop, and I figured if I bought it, it would be the one I was looking at in the case.

Granted I am not looking at $$$$ scopes.

I go both ways on this, I see it as a little whiney, but also see it you didn't expect it. If it was in the store, and I was clerk, I would tell you to take it or leave it. But in that case it would be your choice.

They should have taken the sticker off.
 
It definitely has declined since the merger. I already had bought 10% off gift cards before Christmas and then got another 10% off because club offer it’s usually a thursday, that’s the only reason I bought from them. With this refund for getting a display model I’m out of pocket 1678.15. Couldn’t buy used for that so I’m happy. If anything’s turns out to be wrong with them I’m sure Swarovski will work with me or at least I can pay to get them fixed.
I went there last week first time in few years. Not a good judge cause I was looking for reloading supplies which can be hard to get.

I wrote them off when I went there after the merger, week before deer season, and all the hunting stuff was in back of store. Front is women's jugging wear.

But even in the past, I found the stores about useless, and you needed to order. But with their prices, I rarely buy stuff unless on sale.
 
Many moons ago I sold quite a bit of optics and firearms. Usually would try not to give the customer a discount unless we could find something wrong with them. Having said that, I would never lose a sale over 10%. If it were me, I would get a little $ back and be glad you got a discount for really no reason.
 
All being said if you bought them before the first of the year you already saved about $300.00 bucks if no one has looked lately they jumped in price form about 2300 to 26plus at the start of the year (new)

I emailed customer service some pictures of the scope showing it had been open and handled. They offered me a 20% discount which I agreed to take.
 
They sent me a demo rifle scope that I bought on a discount a year ago. It never said it was pre-owned or a demo.

I walked it with all the paperwork into my local store and they gave me the full actual non-discount price in cash. Which was wierd.
 
I’ve heard since bass pro bought them the warranty thing changed. Not sure haven’t needed to warranty anything from them.
They essentially have an unlimited warranty/refund/exchange policy on everything they carry. Not sure how it applies to high end glass, but it works on fly rods.

I've seen on other forums guys buying Cabelas labeled scopes that says right on the box "Lifetime Warranty" and when the scope is rung up at the register being offered a 3 year warranty "wait, the box says lifetime", get manager involved, back and forth, "yeah, that lifetime no longer applies".

Have also read of Cabelas lifetime warranty on waders being returned due to leaks (not abuse like a puncture or rip, but leaky seam) and the response being "they useable life of the wader has passed".

I still go to Cabelas/BPS because I'm in the heart of the BPS country, but when the "Fine Gun Library" has Remington 870 Express shotguns and run of the mill price point plastic stocked rifles, you know they are total crap compared to what they were 20 or 30 years ago.

Tried to buy a fish finder last year at BPS in Rogers, Arkansas, Wednesday before Thanksgiving. Didn't know it was going on Black Friday Sale on Friday. I was willing to pay full price for it (regularly $950, going to be marked down to $550). They wouldn't sell it to me at full price. "you'll just come back on Friday and ask for the difference". Ok fine. Called Scheels while I was staning at the BPS fish finder counter. Told them BPS was going on sale Friday for the $550 price, guy with Scheels (on speaker phone) had me add it to my shopping cart at Scheels.com, once added to my cart, he marked it down to $550, I completed the purchase, and had the fish finder on my door step on Black Friday. I think that impressed the kid that wouldn't sell it to me at BPS as he listened to the transaction.
 
I know this is an old thread but am in the same boat as the OP except for it is a NF SHV F1 and the serial number on the box does not match the one on the scope. Should I return or try for a discount? Thoughts?
 
I would request a return and accept a discount instead if offered, just my opinion
That’s what I’m going to do. They offered $125 off and with the sale price and active junky it would put it around 40% off but they will exchange it and I know I’ll get one that’s unopened
