Nope, no elk in CO. I think they moved west to Arizona, Nevada, and maybe Utah…

The highest draw odds for the units/ hunts I applied for was around 5%. It sure would be nice!!

Screw that. You can always make more money, but you never know when you'll get drawn for another elk tag again.

I agree with this for sure. Kill the outfitter pool give it to non residents.

Rambo is right. The welfare recipients have a foothold in NM that they will fight hard to retain. MT outfitters have done a nice job of replicating this welfare program.

It took me 11 years to draw my first elk tag in NM in 2020, then I drew again in 2021. 16E and 15, respectively. Both were great hunts.
I love how early draw results post in NM, something I've really come to appreciate vs. most of the West.

Dear Diary, I looked at the NMDGF website again to see if draw results were posted. It was only the 4th time this week, but it is only Tuesday... I just know that the more I look the quicker they will post results. That is how it works, right?

Wyoming's "wildlife taskforce" is also taking up the issue of an outfitter pool while discussing the res/nonres tag allocations.
To my knowledge there are outfitters on the task force but no non residents. I wonder how this will go?

From what I've heard, we should expect it to go poorly for DIY hunters in WY too. The outfitter associations are in bed with the politicians and task force members. Look at MT as an example. It's beyond frustrating and completely BS. Even after a pretty public outcry and effort to not give the outfitters welfare they stuck it back in at the last minute. Total screw job to the average joe and DIY hunter.

On the podcast the task force said there was no current subsidy or support for outfitters. They must have forgot about the wilderness access that only outfitters or residents have. Hhmmm…..

The outcome will be less tags will be available to non resident DIY.

But if they really want to lock up non residents they could have the draw in November.

The commissioner all but said there would be an outfitter pool sat aside and the sole reason for it was the extra dollars generated by the outifitted NR hunter vs the DIY guy

Yes, there will be an outfitter pool. Total screw job to DIY hunters and welfare for people who don't deserve it. Outfitters should get clients by doing a good job and earning customers based on their performance, not on welfare. 90/10 is coming too, it's just a matter of when.

I'm not thrilled about 90/10, but philosophically I have no issue with it and the tags go to residents of the state. States should take care of their residents first, it's just a matter of what percentage of the tags they get that is "correctly taking care of them". The outfitter welfare, that's just complete bullshit. Not only is it socialistic gifting, but it's also the kind of step in the wrong direction that the future of hunting absolutely doesn't need. It's an excellent way to ensure that only those with significant means get the opportunity. Thanks to policy like this, hunting truly is becoming a rich man's sport. ...and as fewer and fewer people can afford to do it, its popularity will drop off, advocates for it will reduce in number, and liberal antis will prevail. It's not paranoid thinking, it's exactly where things will go with bullshit like this (and much more).
