New Mexico Elk Draw 2022

Between WY, NM, MT, and CO, I think I am out of pocket like $6000 right now. My wife politely asked me "WTF" last night.

Yes, I’m aware that there are other units with a higher chance of drawing a tag. I want to hunt the unit I grew up hunting and know very well. Running a commercial meat processing plant doesn’t give me a lot of time in the fall to travel longer distances and take more time. If I ever draw my “home” unit again I can drive from my house every morning, hunt all day and be back home in my own bed at night. I can leave in the morning and be scouting in an hour.

That’s great! They don’t seem to care about the explanation:
“But honey, we should get most of it back because odds are I won’t draw them all…”

All they think about is the 1% chance of “well what happens when you do!?!?”

Look like 6B for me, dont remember putting in for that unit, probably just gonna turn it back in, think ill hit CO OTC in 2022 this fall instead.

Valley Cauldron or something? I cant pronounce any of this... hmm. Yea def gonna pass hunting something i cant even pronounce right. I'll find my boogling bulls in CO OTC for sure.

Funny I put in first then put in my wife a week later after talking w some friends about muzzy elk hunts.

Man I got a talking to when she saw the bill…. Or it was “I saw only one New Mexico app come through I know that was for me” Passive aggressive reminder I guess.

Got hers done the day before the last day so lucky me out of the dog house ..

Waiting for these draws is horrible. I think Wyoming is the worst. Why do you jave to apply so early and wait for so long. I can see they want to see what winterkill is, but then why do we have to apply months ahead of time.

Yea, this completely wrecks my yearly application strategy.

About 10 days before their advertised release of results date the NM game and fish will start sending out emails on fish stocking programs or wild game recipes to get us all fired up.

Outfitters pushed for that January application timeframe. You can thank them for WY being that way.

I wasnt able to apply this year due to financial issues (vehicle repairs) that prevented my from advancing $3000 to NM this year.....really not happy about that. Good luck to everyone though. And like others....now im stuck waiting on WY to post up draw results. Hopefully I draw that because its the only draw application I have in now.
