New Mexico 26 Draw Results

I know it’s tough. I don’t mind working hard and grinding things out. I’m not a big fan of drop camps so we will be mostly diy. Pack service is really all I’m looking for at this time.

Some units are full of private land, but others have little to none. Unit-wide tags from landowners are finally getting some public scrutiny.
Finally? The NMWF has been complaining about it for years. I was at a commission meeting 1 year and a landowner who’s alphalpha had been getting destroyed got landowner tags to take care of the problem. Only he wasn’t happy about it. The tags they gave him were on the other end of the state.

Personally, I like our system. If I don’t draw a tag, I go buy one. And not one of those $15k tags they were talking about in the report either…….

I drew unit 15 elk first muzzy season! Stoked. Been scouring maps trying to figure out where to start and where to avoid... Likely be down there 5 days or so prior to the hunt. Never been to the unit. Anyone have any advice on places to avoid? Would love to chat with anyone that has been in the unit. Congrats to all the others that were successful!

I had that Unit Last year! Bulls and cows every day.

Last year (2025), I drew a bull tag in Unit 15 for the muzzleloader hunt. I had been putting in consistently for seven years, so when I saw that green “successful” tab, I literally jumped for joy. I had read the articles and watched the YouTube videos about hunting the Gila—it was a dream hunt.

The experience itself was incredible, and I’d do it again in a heartbeat—except for the outfitters who decided to fire volleys of gunshots for an hour straight at sundown, then drove around the roads afterward. Bush league.

That said, I didn’t hesitate when the tag price jumped from around $800 to nearly $1,100. It was worth it. I saw elk every day and had opportunities to make a move on them across multiple parts of the unit.

I’m from Arizona, and I know our tag prices didn’t increase that much. I also haven’t been lucky drawing here, so I understand the frustration some people feel about not getting selected. Keep applying—we’re dealing with the same issue with a growing number of applicants.

@Romytfd Thank you for the encouragement! I would love to chat with you about the unit more. I plan to get down there July or early August to cover some ground and learn it more. PM sent. Looking forward to connecting.

Two of us drew Unit 2 second archery! Hunted that unit in 2022. Learned about the unit years ago from a friend and in my opinion it is very underrated. I enjoyed so much and saw a few REAL GOOD bulls that I’ve been making it my first choice ever since. Time to started getting ready!
