New Kifaru Tactical Duplex with..... kuiu Icon pro 3200 Bag.... dodges the bottles...

I'm very new to the high end packing, but what looks great about these is the modularity of the designs. I'm going to play around with a more entry level setup. A Molle gen4 frame, kifaru cargo, kuiu ultra 3000. Most of my hunting is day hunts but need the ability to pack out an elk (quartered). If I don't like the 1603 frame I can try the 1606.

The only thing new is the frame, everything else has been some pickups here on the classifieds. SHTF, thanks for sharing.

BTW, anyone have a source for those ladder lock slide buckles shown in the first set of pics? They can be added to a closed webbing loop and would be handy.

Kifaru sells them in packs of 4, but they can also be found on ebay. The best price is from a Canadian site www.hudson4supplies.com. The shipping is a bit of a killer and was thinking about asking if members here around the Denver area wanted to pool together an order. You can pick up a lot of useful fasteners on there and they offer unit discounts for 10+ and 50+ on a lot of their stuff. Search for '1" Split Bar Buckle'.

Edit: Just realized you may have been talking about the Kuiu ones. I haven't seen them from anywhere but from Kuiu. They sell replacement strap kits. Here is the item if you could ever find somewhere to buy it: http://www.duraflexgroup.com/productDetail.aspx?id=445&sort=backpack

Hey Fellas,

Just an FYI....be careful with the buckles he's using at the top of the frame to attach the bag. They're not horrible, but they will snap under heavy loads.

Yep if you keep reading down the post I switched them out to ghooks the grimlocs won't cut it.
Thanks Aron
I tried out the 7200 pro bag last night with 80lbs I won't be going that route here is why.... The 7200 is a huge bag and with that much weight in it I found it to be a bit more weight then I'd want to put on ghooks at the top of the frame. It held fine but with concentrated weight pulling down i saw enough flex that it made me uncomfortable saying that it work without fail. So that is out Also. I believe also because of the size of the 7200 it changes the center of gravity which was alot different then the slim 3200 that held things a bit closer to the frame.

If you have a sleeve sewn into the Kuiu though it should work fine as any pack bag would.

As someone else stated earlier in this post you probably won't be putting 80 lbs into a 3200 so the ghooks off the duplex frame is s good setup in my book. Any heavy weight will be better attached to the duplex frame and gear in the 3200 and use it as a compression panel to pack out loads. Definitely keeping the 3200 bag for small trips.

Glad I tried this. Learned a few things about the new Kifaru Duplex in the process.

Hi Aron, are there any clips/fasteners that you would recommend to guys considering buying one of your new frames to try with their existing packs?
Thanks.

Was the unwanted "flex" you describe the sag in the bag between G-hooks or are you saying frame flex?

Both. with that much weight in that bag it just didnt feel comfortable for me. I think alot has to do with how the bag hangs off the frame instead of it having a sleeve which would then provide a more stable platform for alot of weight. I also am using arrows in my Frame. If it was with aluminum stays it probably would be better but I feel its not worth the risk of a failure out in the field to comfortably say yes this will work. But others may have a different experience.

Hope that helps.

It would depend on what you're attaching and where you would be attaching it, but there's a lot of options out there that would probably work fine.

Hey SHTF, I'm not sure if you have a bikini frame as well as the new frame, but do you think the stays on a bikini frame could fit into the slots on the Kuiu bag? Maybe someone with a bikini could share some measurements- how far apart are the stays on the bikini, and SHTF- how far apart are the slots on the Kuiu bag? Also, from pictures I've seen, it looks like the stays on the bikini don't stick up very far above the cross member. Could the cross bar be moved down so the stays fully engage in the slots? I think this would be a pretty slick setup- being able to slip an Icon Pro bag right onto the stays of the bikini frame - anyone else with me?

Pretty sure it would work I can measure the stay position shortly.

Center of stay pocket to Center. we are looking at exactly 8 inches. Can someone Measure the center to center of the stays on a Kifaru Bikini Frame?

Thanks

SHTF...this is good stuff. Any thoughts on the SG Serac 1700 fitting the new UL frame? Was visioning it to be like the HPG Highlander in functionality and weight for day hunt use.

If you have that bag we can definitely try it out. But if you dont youd have to order one to see if it would work. I dont own anything from SG so I cant really speak on it.

Anyone tried this with a kuiu ultra 3000? Seems to have similar functionality but is lighter and even more inexpensive.
Great post SHTF! I just started using my ultra 3000 bag on my duplex climbing/skiing. All I did differently is I attached mine with Kifaru K clips at the top of the bag, dutchware's slik clips on the bag back https://www.dutchwaregear.com/1-slik-clip-modular-system.html, and 4 kifaru side straps off my Kifaru cargo panel. I also use the k-clips to keep my shoulder straps from flapping around in the wind and attaching to my shoulder straps. I wish Kifaru made something similar weight/size/simplicity in their multi-cam or wolf grey. I use the gear for everything I do and the 3000 size works really well on ski tours and snowmobiling. I usually get 60-70 tours in a season so ill let you guys know if I have any issues with this set up.

Anyone else use this on the ULTRA bags and want to share some more pics/experience? I am thinking the ultra 6000 would be a perfect setup for me but would like to know if anyone has tried it?
