72 pounds in the 3200 tonight 50 lbs sandbag 20 pounds in dumbell weight. some water So impressed with the Kifaru Frame with this much weight. Didnt slip at all stayed right where it was supposed too. I can now say that the Kuiu bag will hold weight without an issue on the Kifaru Frame. I will try to push for more in the Icon pro 7200. All I have left weight wise is to fill up the dromadary 6 liter and a few 3 liter Camelbaks.

I was looking at doing this as well (icon 3200 to duplex). Looking on mil spec monkeys site about the grimlocks, it says they are only rated for 40lbs. I wonder if there is a more sturdy durable solution for the attachment hardware from frame to bag?

I thought I remember reading ITW Grimlocs being a little higher (can't find it again), but Grimlocs are made to break away at a specific weight as a safety feature so a soldier doesn't get something caught when running and snagged up. Check the earlier posts where SHTF uses G Hooks. You could cut the pack and so them on if you felt so inclined.

The Grimlocks at the top have been axed for an idea.I now use Ghooks attached to the 3/4 inch webbing where the stay goes into the pocket there is a loop there. I run the strap through one of the Ghook slots. Then I use a dutch clip or a Chain quick link attached to the strap to keep the Ghook in place.

The dutch Clip can be had at dutchwear. its ultralight but the quick links are pretty light also.

Some better photos.

The only 2 Grimlocks i use really dont bear any weight they are on the back of the bag. They just keep the bag from flopping around and tight to the frame. Really probably isnt needed. But the same idea I used to put the Ghooks on the top you can use it on the lower side to attach bag to frame. Hope this helps.

Anyone tried this with a kuiu ultra 3000? Seems to have similar functionality but is lighter and even more inexpensive.

Im not familiar with the Ultra, but I believe its not Cordura right? correct me if Im wrong. Im not sure Id try this with a lighter material unless you actually sew in a sleeve for the Duplex Frame The way I have this working is because I have pretty decent faith in Cordura and the strap material to hold the bag to the frame. Guess it could work but I dont have enough knowledge o the Ultra bag material. My 2 cents.

SHTF,

Since you posted this I have been interested in trying this as well. If you don't mind, I would be interested in your thoughts on the Icon Pro frame/suspension vs the new Kifaru. That is assuming you have used the Icon Pro.

There really is no comparison as far as fit and functionality, the Duplex blows the Icon Pro away. Now when you consider price, then it becomes a matter of how you're going to use it. If you are going to regularly use it to be carrying loads over 70lbs or more, then you will need the Duplex. If you are going to be using it for light loads a couple times a year, but like the idea of being able to carry out a load or two of meat then you will be just fine with the Icon Pro. Also, if you are over 6'4" with big shoulders don't bother with the Icon Pro, it can't be adjusted correctly. Like everyone on here likes to say: cry once buy once. I have tried both, the Icon Pro being first and how a 60lb load feels on the duplex is absolutely nothing while you still certain feel it on the Icon Pro.

Thanks for the replies. I'm really leaning towards trying the Kifaru Ultralight with the 3200. I don't typically carry really heavy loads, mainly day pack, but we do a lot of hiking and need to pack out animals on occasion. Currently running the Kuiu Ultra frame/suspension with the 3200 bag and want a better option for when the weight gets up there. I'll be following this to see how it goes once you get some field use with it.

Maybe we can convince Kifaru to make some bags designed like the Kuiu. I really like the bags from Kuiu compared to the Kifaru options.
