Hi Everyone, I’m in the process of developing product for a new outdoor brand slated to launch at the end of this year. I have my own opinions on what constitutes a good insulated layer for western hunting, but I thought I’d reach out here and ask what others thought. What are the styles that are most commonly used? Where do they fall short?
The positioning of the piece is geared towards cool weather active (not stand) hunting, something that can be easily layered and taken on/off as seasons change and days get warmer or colder, or as you're hiking/glassing. Primary innovation is geared toward vapor management/breathability when compared to typical synthetic or down layers. Exclude softshells.
Any and all thoughts appreciated. Some things to think about:
Thank you. Feel free to share anything you think can be made better for you or where you see the market and your gear falling short.

Any and all thoughts appreciated. Some things to think about:
- insulation amount and type
- fit
- layering under shells, and over baselayers or sun shirts
- compressibility
- cost
- versatility - bought for only hunting vs multiple outdoor pursuits
- weight and pack ability vs durability tradeoffs
- need for specific patterns, or solids preferred
