We've been getting a fair number of calls and emails about the Hunter DBM and Hunter Magazine system as hunters get off the mountains and look to 2022. So we had our guy Nick fire up the camera and go over some of the features and specs of both. If you have any questions please let us know!

Good stuff!

In 280ai, would you happen to know if I would lose a round of capacity in the flush mag versus the M5 oberndorf. Do the mags sit just as flush as the M5 oberndorf?

The magazines sit about as flush as a M5 Oberndorf actually. We are working on the 280AI/284 WIN magazines right now. The 300 PRC version would not work well as the feed lips are wider for the fatter cartridge. We'll have more details when those new magazines are available.

Posted a comment, thought I’d add it here. It would be an added benefit if you would stamp the magazines like other manufacturers do. Make it easier to determine which mag you have. I’ve taken to marking mine with paint to visually differentiate between the standard bolt face vs the mag bolt face for my short action mags.

The very initial run was not engraved. All the hunter magazines are engraved for caliber now as we got the same comment from dealers.

I have these in both long and short action. Love them! Would highly recommend.

Any production date yet on the 280ai mag?
We are working on the first prototype now. They will be ready in Q1, but I do not have a solid date as of yet. Currently testing how the other popular standard bolt face LA calibers feed in them. 284 WIN and 280 AI are working great though!

How about Defiance?
Not at this time. The Defiance XM has different hole spacing and a different feed ramp than the Lone Peak, Stiller, and new Zermatt Mediums. We are working on getting the Hunter line out for those 3 first. No concrete plans for the Defiance at this time.

Another vote for Defiance XM!

just curious if the hunter short action magnum mags will work with different flush mounted m5 bottom metals that accept AICS mags?
We've had reports they work with the APA and Badger. They don't seem to play well with the Magpul polymer bottom metals. It's always best to run the Hawkins Hunter, but some of the flush bottom metals seem to run them just fine since they're all AICS pattern.

ah ok its a snowy mountain bottom metal. ill try one out and if not guess ill have no choice to just get the hunter bottom metal if it doesn't work
