Seriously guys, its only a pack! You all act as if no one ever made one before. Really, waiting to see what you all have to say when you get it and put it to the test and give an honest assessment.

We've been working on this for over a year and it's finally ready!

Weight: 2lbs 5 ounces

High Camp Bags

Weight: 2lbs 3 ounces for 6,500 CI bag and 2lbs for 4,500 CI bag (These are approximate sizes)

You know, sometimes I wonder if we are going in circles in pack design. This new "High Country" pack and frame make weight by being elegantly simple with minimalistic design. The new frame is separate from the bag, (external) with the ability to change bags as might be needed. All good things for the light weight backpack hunter.

What's interesting to me is to compare it to the vintage Camp Trails "Moose" frame pack that was recently given to me. It's also a simple, functional pack design with the ability to swap bags on a universal frame. Unlike, the Kifaru, it actually has two pockets. Weight? 4 lb 4 oz..... Made is USA too.

All these decades, and functionally what have we gained besides a more comfortable suspension?

I agree there is beauty in simplicity. The camp trails (I have one as well) are light for sure, but not all that comfy. Then here are comfy packs that aren't that light....I think all the decades were spent getting both in one pack....atleast I hope so. :D I haven't used it so I can't comment on this new frame.

Now if I could get Luke to go on another hunt with me and "Pack", I'd get excited! It's a good looking setup. I've been looking for something like this for agressive and light overnighters here in SE Alaska.

Nice work Kifaru. You gave StoneGlacier some competition.

I'd like to think so Luke, but looking at the range of hunting packs I've used, I would say the last few decades were primarily spent chasing features and comfort. Both worthy goals, but I find it interesting that we are starting to get back to the concept of modular packs and simplicity to save weight.

That's speaking of hunting packs. Recreation backpacks have followed their own arc.

The Trapper Nelson packs that my great grandfather and his peers used to hunt sheep and goat in Alaska were even lighter, but you had to be tough!
