I was fortunate enough to do a little back pack cardio this morning and try out the new pack and frame! I have wore several packs from Kifaru and used both a Duplex frame and the standard Timberline. I started out with the standard T2 and wanted more. Received a Duplex frame and the T1 later on which was more than enough. I felt like i could carry out a VW on that pack. It is extremely rigid and was capable of carrying more than I could handle. I beleive Aron demonstrated the rigidity of the packs pretty well in the videos he made. The Bikini frame seems to acatually suit my needs the best. This is what I was looking for from Kifaru. I backpack as often as possible so the barreling of the Standard T2 was not an issue for me since I had plenty of trial and error with loading the pack. I had to be somewhat diligent and load it accordingly. This bikini frame certainly has the structure when considering the horizontal and vertical stays to avoid that. The weight is down significantly from a Duplex frame if you are a ounce counter. Big Bonus.

I told Aron if we were lucky somebody might pick us up and feed us since it was christmas eve and we were walking around the neighborhood with backpacks looking like bums.

In theory the regular Timberline's would do this due to not having a frame, but it appears there would be a small air gap with the Bikini frame between the bag and the frame. I have the regular Timberline 1 and have packed out quite a few loads of meat and bone, and this was never something I noticed except for a little added heat from the meat. I would guess it's a non-issue with the new frame.

Not sure I'm following you. Doesn't the DT have a rigid frame sheet to keep the pack bag off your back? The Bikini doesn't so I could just picture a quarter bone digging into my back in between the stays.

bikini duplex

Aaron, you mentioned earlier that you had as much as 200-300 pounds of weight on the new Bikini frame. Any testing how the pack and frame feel with a realistic 100 pound load for 3-5 miles?

The Duplex Timberline does have a frame sheet, but the standard Timberline does not. They were referring to the Timberline. You would need to make a very good effort to get something to stick into your back with the Bikini frame, as the torso pads keep that from happening.

I will be using it over the Duplex frame this year, so pretty dang good! It hauls just like the standard Duplex pack, but vents a little better.

Just to be clear, I tested the pack (on my back) with 200 lbs, but I used a dip bar for everything above that.

thanks for the thread and info Aron. i've been saving for a while for a pack/frame setup so i'm really interested in the new rig. so the 6500 cubic inch high camp bag weighs 2 lbs. 3 oz. and the 7200 cubic inch dt1 bag weighs 2 lbs. 9 oz. with 26 inch composite stays. if you add small pockets and two medium pockets to the high camp you'd be at 7116 cubic inches and then the bag and the pockets combined would weigh 2 lbs. 15 ounces. more weight and less capacity overall than the dt1 bag. i understand you get more pocket options and versatility with the high camp bag. are these numbers right? anyone else crunch these numbers and get the same/different results? thanks for any help.

With all the info and an hour of reading maybe I missed this. Will the flat back (or as my wife calls it NO-ASS-A-TALL disease) stays be an option. Sorry if I missed this option.

It would be badass to see a Rokslide edition High Camp pack with the Rokslide logo, maybe in the Kryptek pattern and a few Aron(ized) touches.. Hell the possibilities are endless.

so with the high camp bag two medium pockets and two small pockets your about the same as the dt1 plus or minus one ounce? with a little less capacity. but with the dt1 you would be stuck with fixed pockets.

I mentioned this in the video, but the size of the High camp has not been finalized. The High Camp bag that you see in the photos is closer to 7,000 CI than 6,500, so the weight I announced (2lbs 3 ounces) is for the bag I have right now. If you compare the DT1 with the High Camp, and they were the exact same size, the High Camp will be a few ounces lighter. Here's why: Small sleeve for frame to fit into (1 ounce saving) No water bladder pocket ( we just have a hang loop now) No Zipper divider No internal common loops So with those things missing Different webbing than DT1 (it's much lighter) With all of those things added together, the High Camp is going to be a few ounces lighter....no matter how you look at it. Again, some of this confusion is because we stated the bag at 6,500 (at 2 lbs 3 ounces), but it's much larger than that. Feel free to call me with any questions, as this is hard to explain in text. 720-937-1418 Aron
