New boom stick?

I’m Hunting in urban area and 99.9 percent is whitetail with the bow. Now too many ranges to shoot in Washington DC area as well. I got tikka in 270. Planning to go out west and AK chasing caribou elk and moose, does it make sense to upgrade to a bigger caliber ? Get a better / more $$ rifle or just spend couple of grand on ammo and practice practice practice? I can kind of guess the answer, but do want a new gun lol.

Stick with the 270 win. It'll do all that you need. Upgrade glass if needed and get some practice in as you suggested.

If you want a new gun, buy a 223 or 22lr and continue to practice.

Man I think the 270 is one of the most underrated calibers. It will do everything these new ones will do just as good!
If you wanted to get fancy you could always rebarrel and stock your tikka action! OMR are the tikka guys!

Easy answer is your 270 will do all the things you need. Better answer is keep the 270 and buy another rifle because why not?

How about getting a Tikka in 223 and setting it up just like your 270? That would make “practice, practice, practice” more enjoyable.

I don't know the legality in DC, but I'd buy a suppressor and call it good. Exactly the advise I gave my son. WE bought him a Tikka .270 Win for his 16th birthday with the thought that this will be the only rifle he will ever "need".

I’m in Virginia so I can get a suppressor no problem.

What magnification scope would you suggest ? I have Leopold up to 7 or 8 magnification.

Keep the 270, upgrade glass if needed, go shoot and go on some hunts.

I agree with others about a “trainer” rifle though. Snag a Tikka in 223 and set it up like your 270. You’ll get a lot of quality practice.
