I just walked out to the gun room and tried a 270 WSM round in a "L" mag ("L" means long, '06 class and 300 win mag class) No way will a WSM work in a standard "L" magazine
I'm as inclined as anyone to try and "make" it work but I can see a ruined $50 magazine (or two) in the picture on this one

Tikka have a long mag for .270,30-06 ect but I think the magnums(7 rem mag, .300 mag) have a Long magnum magazine?? as a .300 mag is a fatter case than a .30-06??

I have seen guys here modify mags for a few calibers(.223s to run long 70gn bullets) so it can be done. you guys pay $50!???!!! we pay about 150-160 for a Tikka Mag

It's the same tikka part number that fits all calibers from 6.5x55 to .338 mag. There is no special long mag magazine.

Ok thanks for that. good to know.
this is become more confusing that I had imagined haha. There are thousands of calibers and hundreds of rifles available yet we still want what we cant have haha

I have made a standard long action magazine fit the WSM cases by taking it apart, and grinding it out inside with a Dremel tool. It's actually not very hard. The other option, is to go aftermarket bottom metal and magazine.

That's right, Mountain Tactical sells that bottom metal and links to the magazine supplier - I'd forgotten about that, one of my sons had purchased bottom metal from an Australian company and it was being difficult to fit so I had looked for an alternative supplier

there doesn't look to be very much material to work with in the sidewall of that magazine, I'd be afraid to try it with MY shaky hands - I'll take another closer look though
