Both are very strong. The difference has to do with weight and materials, but not strength. Some people prefer aluminum because it tends to hold up better to scratches from rocks compared to carbon fiber. Aluminum also doesn't have a lot of give to it. Carbon fiber can bend quite a bit before it will break, and is lighet weight than aluminum. Carbon fiber is more expensive than aluminum, which is why the Carbon poles cost more.Sorry to revive an old thread, But I'm trying to decide between your Guide X or Carbon X poles. I have read across the internet that Aluminum poles often bend more before they break. Are the Guide X poles any stronger than the Carbon X? Or just cheaper to manufacture than the carbon ones? Any insight you have would be greatly appreciated!
I wouldn't base your decision on strength for our poles. I would base it off of how important weight is to you and whether you like some of the added features like the foam sleeve on our Carbon X set. For what it's worth, I use our Carbon X poles for everything.
Hope that helps!
