New 109 ELDM vs 108 ELDM

Just put this together and it loves the factory 108 eldm loads and the 103 Hornady precision hunter. Whats your guys experience with either one? Im going to buy a bunch to shoot and harvest the brass. Then will move on to loading my own.

I watched a large Alaskan moose get killed with one this year. Could have had a bit more penetration but it definitely worked quickly. Perfect broadside shot through the lungs. Moose died in about 20 yards when we opened them up there wasn't a mark on the off side rib cage. I wouldn't recommend quartering shots on moose size game. I would think it is an absolute death hammer on anything smaller.

What bullet was that specifically?

Thank you for sharing. It doesn’t sound like it was your rifle, but do you know a rough impact velocity, or MV/distance?

3 deer 1 elk so far this season with the 109eldm. (6mm Creed, 2910fps MV) 1 bullet each. 425, 385, 275, 95 yards. All lung shots, all died very quickly. The elk had a couple inch diameter exit on the offside. Seems very similar in performance to the 108eld, which has taken bears, elk, and deer from the same rifle.

3150 FPS MV testing soon on whitetail culling run to Texas. Pictures incoming.
Culling operation to Texas complete. Results were as follows:
- Buck, 133lbs dressed, 75 yards, perfectly broadside, rear heart placement, ran 20 yards, good expansion, partial passthrough. 1% meat loss
- Doe, 70lbs dressed, 75 yards, Very slight quarter away onside leg forward, heart placement, DRT, good expansion, broken offside shoulder, no exit, partial core in offside hide. 15% meat loss, offside quarter somewhat salvageable.
- Doe, 68lbs dressed, 55 yards, perfectly broadside, front heart placement, intentionally through shoulders, DRT, good expansion, partial passthrough. 25% meat loss, both front quarters somewhat salvageable.
- Doe, 60lbs dressed, 70 yards, intentional middle neck placement, full passthough, she was still blinking 1 min later, second shot to head, DRT. 5% Meat loss, neck.

Conclusions:
109 ELDM has significant and reliable expansion and penetration even at high impact velocities. Will continue to test on Mule Deer and Elk but conclude that it is effective on Whitetails out to my personal range limit.

Settled on a nice 109 ELDM load in my Tikka, over H4350. Vertical in this load was sub 1” at 300 yards and looked like about 5” over this group at 800. Shot 3 more after the video and they fell in nicely. Apologies for the crummy video, iPhone is kinda’ lacking resolution..,

Very nice! How long is the barrel and how much H4350?

19” 1-7.5” PBB and im shooting 39.5 of 4350. 40gr was bingo stamping my brass pretty hard. This barrel has a wicked short throat and I’m attributing my low powder charge to that, but I could be getting a carbon ring too. Just hate to clean it when it’s shooting so good 😂

Awesome! Thank you. I just dropped off the shit for a 26” 6 creed. Just getting ideas on charge weights and speeds. It’ll have the .183 freebore and I’m planning to test 109 ELDM as well as 108, 109 & 115 Berger’s.

I have a similar setup for hunting. 24" barrel, sammi chamber and freebore, 7 twist. The 109 is really happy with 41g H4340 in alpha brass right at 2985fps average.

What brass are you running? I've been using the Peterson SRP brass and ended up at the same charge of 4350 with a PVA barrel before pressure...only hitting ~2800fps with it though.

That’s LRP Starline, I’m not real impressed with it so far. 2 loadings in and a few of the pieces with ejector marks are already barely holding primers. My fault of course but I’m used to Lapua brass holding on strong for 10+ loadings even with the occasional bingo stamp.

That’s going to be sweet, I would think you’d be north of 3k pretty easily with 109s. That stomps the beans out of damn near anything my 6.5x47 or 6.5 Creed can throw out there. Let me know if you want to try 115 DTAC NR’s too.
