Need 270 win bullet recommendations for whitetail.

I'd absolutely start with Winchester Deer Season XP or the Copper Impact version if you prefer copper. Both are 130gr bullets that are very accurate in lots of different rifles.

They will hold up to close in shots just fine and with the velocity the 270 Win provides, both are just hold on fur out to your 300-yard max range.

I have seen so many good results from these bullets (including some of my own!) that it is hard for me to recommend anything else for an inexpensive, accurate, effective deer bullet.

That being said, any decent bullet 100-150gr will work just fine on whitetails. Find what your rifle likes best and go have fun.

Here is a 130gr copper impact. Entered the back part of the guts and ended up in the wind pipe thru the opening in the front of the chest of my son's bull this year.

As others have said, almost any bullet you choose will kill a whitetail at those distances, so whichever you find to be cheapest/most accurate in your rifle will work. I've personally used 140 gr accubonds for whitetail back when I had a 270. Killed 1 buck and 3 does with it, and they all dropped within 20 yards of where shot. They were all double lunged and pass throughs. I had not shot through any shoulders or anything, so my meat loss was minimal and I was very happy with the results. I ended up selling that rifle to a buddy, but I wouldn't hesitate with any factory hunting loads. The ammunition I used was Winchester produced (the one with the weird black coated bullet with a red tip), but I don't think they manufacture it anymore.

As long as you do your job and hit them where you're supposed to, you'll get 'em. No need to overthink it.

I’ve had great luck with 130 grain federal fusions. Killed several deer, a couple elk and bears. All kills between 50-300 yards, all animals died quickly. Loaded ammo is also relatively affordable

130-140 game king is what I always ran in my 270. I think the new Barnes harvest ammo has an option similar. Bought some 140 Berger bullets and loaded them haven’t shot any game as that gun is backup or Canada gun now, I would sell some DRT loaded 140 grain Berger ammo too if you’d like to try. Factory ammo from them before they switched to copper only

As has been said, any .270 bullet will ruin a deer's day, especially out to 300 yards. I would say to steer clear of the non tipped 140SGK. They were extremely accurate out of my dad's rifle but splashed on a doe shoulder for him and more or less penciled on a buck for me (both recovered). Both at woods distances and about 15 years ago so Sierra may have refined but that was enough for us. Can't say they failed because both were recovered but the wide variability caused us to make a change. He went back to the SST, me to the ELD-X but I have some 129 LRX to try too.

People have been killing deer with Remington Cor Lokt bullets and 270's since before I was born.

Find a bullet better than it that shoots good from your rifle and you are good to go.

For factory ammo, I would test in no particular order.nosh
  • Barnes Harvest collection
  • Hornady Eldm Match
  • Federal Fusion (tipped if you can find it)
  • Nosler Ballistic Tip
