Glocks are made in the USA and have been for years.
Some Glocks are made in the USA, the profits still go to an Austrian company. Some MR packs are made in the USA and have been for years, so my point is double valid.

Nice little dumpster fire of a thread going here.

I may have missed something when I skimmed the pages. Are we against diversity within outdoor recreation or against companies that promote the concept, or both?

I tend to take a “big tent“ view on issues like this. Two things i know are facts: (1) US hunter Numbers are shrinking And (2) Minorities are underrepresented in many outdoor pursuits, including hunting, for a lot of reasons. Things that increase participation in outdoor activities and hunting are good. If they diversify the demographics along the way, even better.

Now, maybe one of the mods will come along and lock this thread before it accumulates too much more unfortunate commentary.

Then your point has nothing to do with the foundation linked in the facebook post that started this thread.

Say what?

It says to ensure safe and equitable access. Does an inner city teenager have safe and equal access to the outdoors if they have no means of transportation, or a mentor, or the money to go spend on hundreds of dollars of equipment to just try it out? You seem to basing your position on the idea that 'Guardians' are meant to protect fragile people of color from gun toting racist rednecks that permeate the woods, and that these white people have "DENIED" them for so long, and now they need this foundation to break down those walls.

I can see how that would be offensive to you--you seem like a decent guy, certainly all of my hunting and outdoor friends are as well--but I just don't read or react to this foundation that way.

I see it as a way to expose those who are interested but have not had the opportunity or means to safely navigate unfamiliar terrain. Or those who may have negative biases about the outdoor community, which pushes them away from what would otherwise be a rewarding pursuit. The woods and mountains can be intimidating to newcomers and experienced people alike, especially if you were not raised in that outdoor environment.

I think we should be bringing people in to the industry.

The existence of this foundation is no attack on you or anyone else here. What's the big deal?

Because I believe that it would be better for hunters to attract people from more diverse backgrounds to the sport to maintain its already rapidly shrinking public appeal.

edit: typos

And appealing to new market segments is what any intelligent business does. They are free to run their business as they see fit.

I like this new feature for threads like this. . . Where it just jumps from page 1 to page 5 with no in-between!

Really helps conserve my time wasting for better posts instead of the dumpster fires. . . (Yes I know I'm still here calling it a dumpster fire and contributing)

Meh...

BL, if you don't like them taking a stance, don't support them. I dont like REIs or Patagonia, or BHAs political views, so I don't support them or buy their gear..easy peasy.

Not sure what the problem is though...good on them for helping to introduce others to the outdoors in a safe and educational way.

5 pages in and no one has really mentioned Dana Gleason, who he is or what he represents. Not to mention that he never started his first business (Dana Designs) with any intent other than to make great backpacks. That success afforded him an opportunity to start Mystery Ranch, perhaps because the trappings of his own success didn't offer the flexibility/creativity he originally started with. I suppose success provides you a platform and opportunity to use it in any way you choose. If you, as a consumer, are not interested there is on obligation to financially support him or his company. To expect more is like saying all athletes, celebrities, etc. somehow owe us something back from the success we willfully gave them. Quite the rabbit hole.

Nothing more than pandering. Someone with a Twitter account should ask then if #diversitymatters, why that doesn't include any executives at MR. I'll beleive in their conviction for inclusiveness when they start stepping down from their positions to offer their jobs to minorities.

Not going to read through all of this post but I did go to the website of the company MR is promoting.

I am not seeing anything radical or IMO wrong. It seems to be promoting the outdoors to a demographic that due to socioeconomics have a harder time in many cases to enjoy the outdoors and are looking to expand that group into the outdoors.

I may be naive and there is more there but my gut says otherwise right now.

I am tired of everything becoming politicized and encourage everyone to force term limits on all of Congress. This partisan politics IMO is destroying our country. I am ready to vote out anyone that has more than 8 years in Congress regardless of party. I also want them to use the Public option health insurance plans if they feel it’s good enough for us then it’s good enough for them. Get rid of the pension and give them a 401k.

You’re so woke....

Rather than acting like a baby though and crying for mods to lock threads you might just try not reading the thread and not ruining things for other people.

Pretty easy for me to understand that a lot of people could be uncomfortable or intimidated about heading out into the woods/mountains for the first time. Same as I would be damn uncomfortable and a bit intimidated about heading into the inner parts of any major city. I see no problem with this foundation wanting to open people up to the outdoors. I'm guessing that inner city kids probably don't get much of a chance to go hiking or camping, it would be a whole new world for them and could change their lives. Seems like a good thing.
I'll continue to buy MR products if I think they will work the best for me. They're customer support is the best I've ever experienced anywhere.

Worth repeating. People who post threads like these are like shouting in a library. Though, I might take up the hobby of shouting in libraries, then telling everyone to stop acting like a baby when they ask me to stop. I will also complain that it is unjust to not let me shout, while conveniently ignoring the fact that I can shout as much as I want in plenty of other places.

In the end, this is just a political thread that was started with a tone intended to stir people up and is thinly mask by talking about a pack manufacture. It belongs on the Fire where it would be welcomed. On Rokslide it just ruins things for other people.

If you put a gallon of fresh water in a barrel of sewage, you still have a barrel of sewage. Put a table spoon of sewage in a barrel of fresh water and you end up with a barrel of sewage.

Sorry. Didn’t mean to ruin the party.

once again for clarity, are we against people of color in the outdoors or companies that support people of color or both? Thanks. Xoxo. DJ.
