My Trip Of A Life Time

Can't wait to follow this one, it's awesome you are doing this, life just gets more complicated the older you get, you are smart to do it now.

Well fellas the truck is packed and ready to go. Im kicked back having a few coronas with some good friends and just relaxing. Tomorrow im gunna head out and do some fly fishing along the Yellowstone as I head west. Ill meet up with some locals ive made friends with and stay the night at there place tomorrow, and then set up camp on Tuesday after the labor day crowd thins out a bit.

Caught some fine Brookies for dinner last night and stayed with some locals for the night. I'm heading up right now to do some spotting and hopefully find a camp spot. It was packed with a bunch of campers and hikers last night. Can some one PM me on how to post pics from my iPhone?

Do you have tapatalk on your phone? If not, get it! So much easier to post pics and keep up on the forum! I'm on mine right now... :)

Thanks for the support fellas. I just ran into town and she ran fine when I'm easy on it. Grabbed some more ice an a few provisions so I shouldn't have to come out for a while.

A quick update on scouting. I went into an off trail drainage yesterday that was a hell of a hike. Saw a few goats and a bear. Some sign of elk. The drainage proved to tough and dangerous to hunt by myself though and I will have to let it be until I can get a hunting partner up here. Still in good spirits patiently awaiting opening day. Good luck to all

Spotted two good bulls this morning, had the whole place to my self. Then the trucks trailers and horse camps showed up. And now a local I know said he's tagging along with me in the morning to help me. So my opening morning plans have changed a bit but elk hunting never goes as planned! Still having a great time. Would of like to hubt by myself but I didn't have the heart to tell him no after all he's done for me.
Wish me luck boys!

The help might be nice. It may open up more opportunities, but it's your hunt. If you want to do this solo, thank him and do it solo.

Good hunting ! It may not have been your plan to hunt with a friend but it may work out best in the end. I hope he is bringing his ride as you could need one at any minute ! I'm sure that with the big block of time you have planned you will get some alone time.

Ya, shrek is right. Sounds like from what you said this guy has helped ya out. Wouldn't be the worst thing ever to have some company to see how the truck is gonna hold up for a bit.

Long day today fellas. Put 10 miles on the boots . Some guys backpacked in and set up camp on the same ridge I saw those bulls on yesterday. The bulls moved all the way down mountain and there wasn't a realistic way to get to them in time. I just sat back and watched them, learning there habits and characteristics, just waiting for the perfect opportunity. No reason to blow them out. Saw some cows and almost had a shot at smaller bear at 30 yards. Back at it tomorrow.

Oh an I was happy to have my friend along, we had a good time together and he left his camper at a different trailhead so I can hunt in between my camp and his camper and stay where ever I end up at the end of the day. He's a great guy and has done more for me than he knows. My truck seems to be running fine for now but he has an extra I can used need be.

Had a close call today with an elk. Wasn't paying attention while I was glassing a distant hillside I last saw the bulls on. Some hunters pushed one to me and when I stood up it was 30 yards away. I was busted. Hunters were buglin there hearts out on every ridge the trail crosses. The elk have been pushed.
I'm debating on going deep tomorrow morning into a honey hole I was saving for the rut. I went to the outer reaches of it today and to my knowledge no ones been in there yet. The elk travel fairly regularly through this particular ravine and it's an absolute rut fest starting the 15th typically. What do you guys think? Go for it?
