Dustin and I are setting out today on a 9 day journey. Planning to go from Billings to the pacific ocean, fishing and hunting along the way. Seeing all the places we've wanted to see. Were suppose to meet up with Michael, another member of the Beartooth crew and help him do some elk hunting in Pocatello. Dustin still has bear tag and I have my deer tag, so we maybe wacking and stacking along the way. Dustin hasnt caught a salmon before either so were planning on doing a bit of salmon fishing in washington if time allows. Were just going to have a good time and do some filming. Wish us luck.

Great bull man way to go!

On that growler bull you were on that was pushing cows and chuckling at you... he's asking you to come to him! He doesn't want to leave his cows, but he's def got room for one more! In that situation I'd get off to one side of him to so you'd minimize the risk of him catching your thermals, stick to cover and literally run or trot down the mountain at him calling every 20-50 yards or so with a slightly excited cow call. Get him fired up and thinking he's got another cow coming his way on her own she's so in love with him. If you can get within 80 yards and still be in good cover keep calling and moving. If not I'd call right up until the cover ran out then try to sneak in closer or hit him with some chuckles making him think another bull is coming in to steal HIS hot cow. Never know you might be able to pull that pull 40-50 yards away from his cows if he ain't getting much pressure from other satellites.

Either way sounds like you didn't need the above advice! Good luck fishing... what part of WA you coming through? I'm in Wenatchee...

Dustin took a shot at a tremendous bear at last light this evening. The shot was at 298 yards and he put the crosshairs on his back with a 270 sighted in dead on at 200. At the shot the bear balled up and then got up and loped off like nothing happened (no death run or staggering). We couldnt find blood or hair. Im thinking the shot was really high as you can see dirt fly in the video. Not really sure what to think at this point. Were headed back in at first light to look for any sign of a hit. Like I said I think the shot was really high above the spinal cord but we will see. Wish us luck.

Well Dustin and I have reviewed the footage over and over, put it in our program and slowed it down, we've come to the conclusion it was a clean miss. We searched for 2 days and found no blood or hair. Just some tracks that later disappeared. He was pretty bummed out but thats hunting, it would have been his first big game animal. We are now in Washington and Dustin caught his first salmon! Having a blast, we will post some pics tonight.

Everybody hates misses! but come on lets get real here!?! You have your nice shooting bench set up, a super comfy chair! Perfect brisk air with no wind. No incline or decline. A HUGE x on the target at 100 yds even. and a coke and snack sitting next to you. Who knows why we miss. beats me :)

My camera is down for the time being, doesnt look like ill be getting it back until the 16th which sucks! In the mean time ive picked up a little side work over here and am re-upping my funds. My dad and I are headed to muzzleloader elk camp on thursday for 8 days to chase some spikes around. Its been a while since pops and I have been able to share a hunt so it should be a lot of fun. Im looking forward to it more than any other hunt this year even though I wont have a tag and the only thing he can shoot is a spike elk.
Once I return Ill be buying a NR general deer tag and spend the rest of the month trying to take a nice blacktail buck. Its what I grew up hunting and blacktail hunting thick timber is in my blood. Im still convinced a mature BT buck in western WA is one of the hardest of animals to kill.

Just got back from a week long elk hunt with the old man and his hunting camp. It was probably my favorite week so far in my journey. Truly an amazing experience. Ill post some pics later.
