So, this year on second week of muzzleloader we shot 4 bucks on our farm. One is at the taxidermist as he measured 22-23” wide. Not impressive on points but unique and wide for sure. Illl drop that pic in here as well.

The other three bucks were decent. My bro in laws first deer and the other two mine. I skinned em out and trimmed fat , muscle and tendons the best I could, then, I did like most everyone else and like I traditionally, crab pot with few squeezes of dawn, a packet or two of clothing wash and a couple pours of purple power. Too much? Maybe. Dunno.

I bring em to a boil for a bit and then let em simmer. After they cool down and reach air temp I hit em with the pressure washer and clean it all out. Typical procedure for me.

So once they are clean I hit em with a propane hand torch real quickly and lightly just to do a little drying. No flame, just heat.

Then I have a homemade low temp heater and leave em for 24 hours, this is where I will usually do the peroxide deal, white the skull and then use a satin clear. This time I tried the route of dark grey primer and was tempted to leave them.

Golden max flex grey primer and then I used their wayward white in satin. I think it came out damn good, doesn’t look commercially painted by any means.

We’ll see durability.

Pics are the 2 euro mounts, one still drying and the big guy that’s at the taxidermist.
