Musk ox skull plate

Hey all I recently got my musk ox back from Nunavut. It was beetle cleaned was supposed to be a full skull but a clown at advanced taxidermy took it upon themselves to just chop the skull off so Im having to use the real horns I was going to do a skull mount and have replicas made. Anyway does anyone know how to safely degrease this thing Ive never done a horned animal with non removable horns? Thanks

Do you have the full skull or not ? Something is lost in translation. Something sounds cut
Everywhere but the USA a true Euro skull mount the skull is cut long ways from middle of nose to where the spine connects to the skull.

The taxidermist in Edmonton(?) drilled holes in a bunch of areas of the bottom of horns near skull and through the skull. What or how he did or put in there I have no idea. I had it for a while, but now its at the taxidermist so I can't get you pics

Yes i had a deposit down for a skull cap replica to put on the mount and had ordered the skull be beetle cleaned to keep and pick up but that went out the window

It was advanced taxidermy in Ontario you should see the caribou antlers also supposed to be beetle cleaned

Those were submerged in large tubs of bleach or peroxide. Who is he trying to fool? I know better and I'm no pro.

Man, I am so sad to hear this. I was hoping my musk ox would go to them thinking I could drive up and bring it home myself. As it turns out, mine went to J&B Taxidermy in Alberta and while it cost a fortune for shipping, I have learned so much and become fast friends with Joey the owner. Heck of a hunter and a master taxidermist.

Nunavut is a pretty huge undertaking so hopefully this will help some future hunters with their planning.

I’m curious how the communication was with Advanced Taxidermy? J&B went over ALL the options on the phone and then once we agreed, he wrote up a work order and sent it to me to approve before moving forward.

Looks like they thought your wanted a head mount/ligesize. Going to be you to get a euro there and my research shows making a replica is nearly impossible.

looks like they boiled it instead. Plus the skull will be hard to replicate, and rightly expensive to try. You got served on that one buddy. Damn. I'm sorry this still happens in 2026+

A friend of mine bought some beetles online and now cleans her skulls at home as a hobby. Kind of makes me want to try it too. A reliable and available Taxi is as rare as a golden unicorn these days.

This is why I haven't anything professionally taxi'd in 30 years. My brother has done a couple for me, but that's it. I've euro'd a bunch on my own and skull mounted a few, but all my horns mostly go into piles now.

Yea both made book to. I got a full refund wanted more but considering what leagal fees would be id end up losing money. Be glad yours didnt go there. Communication sucked before I even put my order in for what I wanted someone there hacked the skull off they never said anything I paid for the full skull and then when i opened the crate and I called they acted like i was wrong. I told Shane about it also. Yours looks fantastic
