Hey bud, no need to be a prick. You feel a certain way and that is fine. Being a smart guy from your living room is doing nothing but proving your personalty.

FWIW, I wasn't defending him. You are about as observant as you are up to speed on how these mapping programs generate their images. Did you think they have people in every state just slobbering to draw an overlay for a topo every time a piece of land sold?

How much experience do you have using OnX in the various western states? Have you had any conflicts with land owners when you thought you were on public land and how where they resolved? I could tell you what would happen in WY, infact there was a clue above, the smartest man in the room should have been able to see it. Locally here there was a state land trade that was done in 2 parts over a 2 year period, OnX was up to date the next year after each trade. Crazy I know you pay them for a service and they provide it.

PS, I hope some of you guys can read sign better than you can read sarcasm.

sounds like our hero should sue onx.

The fact that he admitted to not even trying to use it to stay out of the ranch this most recent time should play to his favor I think.

After getting busted at the same ranch 2 years prior he must have figured out that onx and land surface maps are scam.

I’m canceling my subscription to onx before something similar befalls me several times over the course of the next few years. this thread has been eye opening.

Last year my hinting buddy and I contacted a surveyor and paid to have our own surveys done of the ranches that adjoin the nTional forest where we hunt. It was a little pricey but it cost less than getting the National Forest surveyed and my buddy shot a nice elk we wouldn’t have been comfortable taking if we hadn’t had that survey done and then had the title search performed and purchased our trespass insurance from Chicago Title.

Also if you don’t do all the legwork outlined above- you are unethical compared to me and my partners. And if you think you know about that muleyfreak case because you read the court documents- you lack critical thinking skills compared to me.

Juan, thank you for your valuable insight. Its good to see there's other hunters out there doing things the RIGHT way and not relying on someone else to do their research for them. We do something similar. Its so refreshing when a landowner confronts you and informs you you're trespassing, some will even show you on their OnX maps. You can then inform them that no infact you had their property surveyed and their fence line is 250' onto the public land. They are always very appreciative when they receive this information and promise to move their fence right away.

WARNING: The above TWO posts are mostly sarcasm.

Just curious about the difference in land surveys in the western states. I know issues exist in the east with any of the mapping technology and true property boundaries. I'm wondering if part of this is because of when information was collected. A friend just bought another farm at auction. He had it surveyed after he purchased. Previous survey was from 1896. I would say this isn't standard in our area but a lot of the previous surveys would be from the 30's-60's. It could also be that overlays in the east were done before they started doing overlays in the west. As technology for doing them increased so did accuracy.

Just curious what others thoughts are?

I leave all electronic technology behind when I set foot into the back country. I hate the idea of tainting the environment by tampering with or otherwise influencing the natural magnetic / electrical field that surrounds and moves through the earth and all living things. Also animals are really sensitive to those same frequencies in some cases and having a gps or GoPro or cell phone can get you busted just as quickly as not using scent cover spray and wearing the wrong camo pattern.

Which is to say I am completely unaware of the different technological challenges and advances that have been faced with the advent of map overlays east and west.

Just get the Trespass insurance and be done with it. My trespass insurance is $8 a month and some years I’ll use it 2times. Way cheaper and more convenient than paying a fine or trying to get permission or paying a trespass fee.

This thread makes me glad I never bought any of his products.

His products were garbage anyways! I know two guys who bought them... both orders were jacked up and when they did actually get the product it was crap compared to Kuiu or Marsupial. Glad I steered clear.

Trespass insurance is a must have IMO. I dont understand why the bigger platforms arent preaching it as much as OnX. 2 years ago I got caught dragging my deer off the neighbors property and he had the gall to call the Game Warden, well long story short my insurance company provided me a good lawyer and got me off clean at no expense. I pay $12 a month, however. A little steep but worth it because I would have lost my hunting license for 5 years.

In this scenario I try to do it during dark. It's hard to catch you if they are sleeping. I was once unsuccessful on an elk hunt so I took a ranchers cow and put it in my truck. I tagged it so I didnt get in any trouble. It seemed like he had too many cows anyway.

Ha ha! You stated withhold judgement till court reaches a decision, they did. He';s guilty. Not being a prick, don't have one. Figure that out.
You stated "he's seems like a nice guy".
As far as my personality, guess gain. You got called out for defending him that is all. Guess you're showing your true colors as well.
I know full well how mapping companies get their info. I do my due diligence when researching a piece of land that may or may not have access. It starts at the County Assessor's office not a GPS or phone.

What ever man, you jumped right in without reading the thread then got your panties in a wad when someone pointed out you were wrong about the case being settled.

You know what, this is too much on my part. I was not trying to attack you personally. I just don't buy anyone, not just you, defending a guy that was caught multiple times doing the same thing. Yes, he may be a "nice guy", but in my book he is also a poacher and that is what I was commenting on.
I don't know you at all and will refrain from passing judgement on your character. As far as my personality, judge me as you wish .
I'll try to avoid stepping on your toes from now on.
Agree to disagree?

This was his second time in two years he was caught trespassing on the same property. He also had his hunting privileges suspended in 2007. He is a serial offender.

Word on the street is that OnX is adding an option for trespass insurance at $10 a month. Might need to drop the (trespassing) insurance agent and just go with what OnX offers. Glad they are backing their product with insurance.
