MTNTough has a pretty good deal at 45% off for a years subscription right now… is it worth it at that price? Are the programs where you follow along with a video or just a documented exercise plan?

For reference I’m 50 year old male and could stand to lose some lbs but I do hike, ruck, and kettlebell to try and keep my fitness up… I’m interested in their 50+ program, the KB program, and the bodyweight one…

They have both types depending on the program. Plenty of work out choices- body wieght, vest, weighted pack, gym equipment. I pay for it so I guess that puts me in the worth it.

I think they have a trial program where you try out before committing. Maybe @weston(mtntough) will chime in.

Thanks. Yeah they have a two week free trial before they charge you for the program, so you can test it out and see if you like it. At the current sale price it might be worth it to give it a try.

I would agree that it is worth it - though I definitely need to utilize it more... took an extended break from CO last season since I knew I was not making it out west this year and paying for it now... nothing like starting over again! We utilized the 45% off last year and ended up paying full price for it this year if that is any inkling into what is has to offer. Programs from no to minimal gear, up to those that have fancy full gyms.

I subscribed to it at the beginning of the year, and I think it’s pretty good.. as others mentioned, plenty of programs to choose from whether you’re looking for coached (follow along on the screen) or self-guided (they demonstrate the movements and then you do them on your own), no gear, minimal gear, kettlebell, full gym, etc..

I don’t have experience with other programs to compare it to, but the workouts seem pretty good to me.. maybe someone with a degree in exercise science could easily come up with the workouts themselves, but if you don’t want to think about it and just turn on the tv and go, I find it to be money well spent..

I bought mine around new years last year for 95$ for the year, seems like they run lots of sales. I don’t use it much, but that’s more of a personal discipline thing than it is a nock on their product!

Wasn't "it" for me... my hunting partner loves it and is in the best shape he has ever been in (he is no slouch either).

I dont work out with a TV or app so it made it awkward/hard to follow everything.

Good work outs, just wasn't what I was looking for.

Also as fyi I was doing this 2 years ago.. not sure if it has changed

Not in my opinion. I did the trial. Went through an on ramp program during that trial. The ability to have outlined workouts or follow videos was great. So I signed up.

What they dont tell you is that after the first few programs, they dont have video follow alongs. They have a VERY short intro video and then just the written workout. You basically end up paying for a pdf. You can literally google a workout and get the same value there for free.

If they had the option for every workout to have a summary, a walk through, and a written option it would be fine. But they make a great intro product, and not much after that if you are looking for more than a workout plan. Pretty frustrating to have to click through their app to find the explanation for multiple exercises during a workout if you dont understand the terminology they are using.

I wont be renewing unless they were to add quite a bit of supporting content in the next few months, which I doubt.

I love it and it allows me to do a program that not only helps prepare me for the mountains, but also works to minimize injury risk. I did CrossFit years ago and even with attention to form on all movements would get injured with some frequency. Over the past year, my lower body and core strength has improved a ton as a result of the program. It is not for everyone, but they offer so many workout options based on gym setup. As previously recommended, do the trial, and see what you think.

I enjoy it. Some days I wish they had a more basic strength program. Sometimes I am not feeling the crossfire style blocks. I just want to go move heavy objects and unwind.

I am also the exact opposite of above. I hate their programs that have a full 45 min video to follow along with. I prefer the 3 minute intro video followed by a PDF. I prefer listening to music and not getting "verbally abused by Sarah" as my wife puts it. 🤣
