MTN TOUGH Backcountry Hunting Postseason Program Thread

Week 5 Day 2:

25 min. AMRAP

Rower, 2KB squats, 2KB push press, 2KB swings

This was a short, intense workout. 100% effort!

I was flailing away at the rower in round 18 when the timer buzzed.

Keeping maximum effort on the rower and the swings were the toughest parts for me. It was easy to get pulled into a rest on the rower.

Started out a little sore from yesterday’s workout but I feel great now.

Week 5 day 2.

Good lord. I used the treadmill for the 30second portion on the rounds. I was walking to the treadmill after my 14th round when the timer hit. Did some serious swearing on this one

Week 5 Day 3:

Supersets deadlifts and pull-ups,

Asym rows and c-raises

Then jump rope and core

I am NOT a good jump roper.

Feel OK. Soreness in the hamstrings a bit.

Week 5 day 3 in the books.

I don’t have a jump rope so I did the mini step ups. Good workout. I feel I can step up in weight with my deadlifts next week.

Week 5 Day 4:

“Mind Splitter”

This was five rounds of supersets for time descending then ascending in reps.

It was the hardest workout I can remember completing.

The final instruction is in all caps:

DO NOT QUIT!

Very hard to follow that instruction, but I did.

I will do the backcountry program again starting in June. These next 4 months will be a good time to eat pizza an drink beer.

Week 5 day 4. That... was terrible. I used beginner weights and got done in 49 minutes. I haven’t sweat this much since Mexico last year in 110 degree weather. I think this workout is worth posting just so people can try it.... might be a humbling wake up call for some.

Week 5 day 5.

Today we’re supposed to do the Super M workout. Basically just cardio interval training. Typically I would go outside and run/walk the intervals. However since I’m leaving for the Sheep Show on Tuesday and will not have a pack next Friday, I’m substituting for the ruck day today. 40lb pack and probably be walking around 3 miles up the road from my house which has a bit of hills.

Will continue to update everyone next week!

Coming to you live from the Kifaru vehicle Sheep show bound. I dropped the ball yesterday as I should have completed today’s workout. I will be a day or two behind but I’ll jump right back on week 6 when we get into Reno.

Week 6 Day 2:

The 25 minute AMRAP again.

I increased the intensity on the cardio machine and upped the weights this week. I made it halfway through the 16th round this week.

Unfortunately, my gym only has single KBs so I had to use dumbbells. I strained my lower back during the swings a bit due to how cumbersome it is to do swings with two dumbbells. If /when we do this one again, I will figure something else out.

I am already worried about day 4...

But first ... on to Day 3!

Week 6 Day 3: same as last week.

Week 6 Day 4: try #2 at “Mind Splitter”

Intermediate weights and maximum effort.

I have nothing left.

Very difficult.

Week 7 Day 1:

Third week starting with the Day 1 supersets.

Upped the weights again.

This one seems pretty easy, but I feel it after .

Hey all! I'm back. I did complete week 6 last week in Reno.

Week 7 Day 1:

Another superset day. This also seemed easier for me this week but I did get my weight up a little in everything.

The russian twists are getting easier and I'm also adding weight to those.

Week 7 Day 2:

25 minute AMRAP again.

Completed 18 rounds.

This one is all about how much effort you put into the cardio machine.

Week 7 day 2.

I upped the weight to intermediate instead of beginner this week. I got to 14 rounds and just finished the kB swings when the timer went off.

Last week I did about 12 rounds with beginner weight. I blame that on the crowded gym.

I’ll be continuing with week 7 day 3 in the morning. Right before we left for Salt Lake my SI joint enflamed. Happens once every year without fail. Got it taken care of and re-aligned yesterday. Not a bi-product of the program whatsoever, I’ve had this happen a bunch.
