I spent the past weekend hunting district 300. I saw ~20 sheep and almost as many mountain goats, but no legal rams. Still had a good time hiking and glassing a very cool corner of the state. I'd certainly do it again.

Long report with photos: http://bedrockandparadox.com/2014/09/08/unlimited/

If anyone is inclined to do so, I'd appreciate feedback on my tactics from experienced sheep hunters, which I am not.

Thanks, I enjoyed the story. An unlimited tag is on my short list and might be the only way I'll hunt sheep.

Thanks for the write up, I enjoyed it. I'm planning on going out for 4 days in October, not to hunt but to see and get a feel for the area. My plan is to be out there next year.

Great stuff, at some point I'll be doing that as well, only way I'll ever be able to hunt sheep unless I hit the lotto.

Great write up - I've heard those hunts can be rough. Awesome that you saw some sheep! Keep after it, you will get your ram.

It sounds like a cool trip. With a tag in pocket there is always a chance and that makes all the difference. Good hunting !

Thanks everyone, glad ya'll enjoyed it.

Based on reputation and field reports, I was mostly expecting to see nothing, so seeing that many sheep and goats was nice. More time in the field would certainly shorten the odds, though there's a lot of sub-alpine timber for them to hide in. Makes me wonder to what extent glassing from a distance would need to be augmented with something else.

The season in 300 closes today. As of 5 minutes ago, the FWP hotline was reporting no sheep harvested (though you do have 48 hours to report after taking one).
