MPA Rifle in 300prc or something different?

Looking at this rifle for my 300prc. My other rifles are Tikka, but I don’t think a 300prc is possible in a tikka from what I’ve read. So here I am searching for something new. The MPA seems like a great deal, especially with the discount you can get on them. Anyone have experience with them? Am I better off spending more on something different? I plan to top it with the RS1.2 just like my other rifles.

The mixture of ultralight and 300 PRC don't go together very well.
Great to carry - miserable to shoot.
No experience with this particular rifle though.

Just saw the backfire episode talking to tikka guys and they reckon 300prc fits in a sako of some description.
Might be an option if you wanna keep it in the tikka/sako family.

What does 300 prc do for you that 300wsm or wm don't?
Only asking because it just seems like a lot more recoil for minimal gain and it seems like youd probably prefer a tikka.

As for mpa chassis themselves, I had a hybrid chassis, Bloody fantastic, Heavy/prs inspired desing but not as bad as some other options. Quality option for sure.

As the other two have hinted at, without knowing what the application of the firearm will be, it is hard to give alternative opinions.

However, if you are just looking for confirmation that the MPA PMR Ultra Lite Hunter is a good platform, I have only shot one and have seen 2 or 3 used at a couple of PRS matches that I volunteered at. They seem well suited to that game. The one that I shot was only for 5 rounds, but it was pretty much "no muss, no fuss" in that it performed pretty much exactly as I expected a rifle set up for PRS would. The one I shot was a Hunter Comp, BTW.

As I said, I can't answer the "Would I be better spending my money elsewhere" question without knowing what your plans are for the rifle.

This one will be used for elk hunting and a couple shooting courses that I’m going to attend in 2027. The main purpose is hunting though. I’m wanting something that’ll shoot the heavier bullets 180-215ish and shoot flat. I should also say that I’ll want the barrel to be 20-22” since I’ll run a suppressor 100% of the time.

Awesome! Thank you for the clarification. One last question. What do you think your maximum hunting range will be? For the shooting courses it isn't that big of a deal as you will have time to dial and hitting a plate at 1000 fps vs 1800 fps doesn't really change much.

That being said, I would probably steer you towards one of the 6.5 or 7mm offerings over the 300 PRC, mainly due to the recoil in a lighter rifle. The 156 6.5s and 175 7mm bullets buck the wind just as good (or even a little better) than the heavy 30s and kill just as well out to ranges beyond most people's capability. The lower recoil allows for more margin of error in positioning in the field and facilitates longer practice sessions.

If you already have something that fits that bill and just want something bigger in 30 cal, great. You could do a lot worse than the MPA.

No flies on that setup. Just know that it’s not light for a hunting rifle regardless of being called ultralight.

99% chance you will not want to bring a 300PRC through a couple of shooting classes. The action of the rifle is an ARC Coup de Grace action which is a solid one though.

I do have a 6.5 PRC already. I’d like to leave that to the 130-140 range and run this new one in the 180 range. Mostly, I want another rifle and don’t want to feel like I’m repeating something I already have. The more I think about it, the more I lean to picking up the CDG action for $900-1000 and throwing a proof on it. Most likely in the 7mm PRC after digging into it some more…but the 300wsm is interesting as well

I went with the 6.5 Sherman Mega (similar to an improved SAUM). It replaced a 7RM and a 300WM (which I still have, but am probably going to end up giving to my nephew or selling).
I also have a .338 Sherman Mega that I plan on doing some ELR shooting with (but not on game) and is my Nilgai rifle. Not that I need a .338, but it is a fun round and rifle and it keeps the guides happy. Plus, being able to shoot through 3 pigs at once is always a hoot.
