So I just sold a couple rifles to some new hunters/friends and looking for replacement suggestions. I sold an older 243 and 308. I am hung up if I should upgrade the 243 with an 8 twist tikka, just get another 308, or go with a completely different caliber altogether. Looking to get a rifle that can shoot animals a bit further than my 6arc, but game all the way out to 1000yds isn’t needed….so something like a 6.5prc isnt necessarily on the list. Will be used for shooting deer and sheep.

I reload, so I will not be stuck shooting factory ammo. I was really hard to sell the 308 cuz I think it’s a good rifle to always have, the world ends, etc…but my friend was really stoked and it will be put to good use

Do you own a Supressor? That is high on the list. Regardless I would go 308 as the 243 is to similar to the ARC

I was going to comment use the funds to hire movers.

Could you add a SME, Sound Mitigation equipment? Look up Witt Machine. It has some value with reducing the sound but is not a suppressor, does not require any federal or state approval and is legal in all 50 states. Certainly makes it more enjoyable to shoot IMO.

Living in one of the 18 communist states you may consider spending the funds on more ammo or powder/bullets since you reload.

243 Tikka is a good choice. The throat On mine is a little short and I have to stuff 108 ELDMs back into the powder column.

6 creed Tikka would fix that side of it. 243 feeds smoother though and doesn't get as sticky on bolt lift.

I have a 243 Tikka and a Tikka with a 6 Creed barrel on it. I thought I was going to stick with 6 Creed, but now that I have both I'm not so certain.

Tikka will have the 6 cm available very soon fyi. I have an 8 twist 243 Tikka and love it but would certainly like the 6cm better just for less brass trimming and able to grab factory 108 loads etc. I almost have a load finalized with the 116 TMK but have killed with the 109 eldm hand loaded. Love it!

Without knowing what else you already have, it is hard to give advice. But as someone who “has too many rifles” and can never resist the next one, I suggest at least considering what you have and what role you can claim for the new rifle.

A 6.5 creedmoor pretty much splits the difference between 243 and 308.
Better barrel life than 243/6creed, ballistically superior to 308 after i think 400 or 500yds (could be further)
Plenty of factory ammo options in a pinch.

The only way id go 243 or 308 over a 6.5 creed is if you still have a ton of projectiles leftover Or if you live in a state with some super weird calibre restrictions.

Thanks. I was wondering about waiting for the 6 creed or just go with the 243. Wasn’t sure if it was worth the wait between the two.

Yeah, that’s kinda what I was thinking, but I really don’t know what direction I want to go.

Save your money and move to America 🤣🤣🤣
Don’t know what other state I can fish, hunt, and surf 365 days a year. Might hate the politics and cost of living, but those things listed above are worth the negative aspects every day in my book.
243 8 twist (if you reload)
6mm Creedmoor (if you don’t reload)
6.5 Creedmoor (if you want ammo variety)

308 is a flying potato and almost everything in a smaller caliber in a similar cartridge size is a better option.
A flying potato is my 30-30. 308 isn’t as bad as everyone makes it out to be. It has its positives that still make it a relevant/viable option.
