Mountain Rig

I've taken a '98 Ford Ranger, '93 Dodge 250 w/Cummins, '00 Ford F-150 (dads) and last time a Ford Taurus (mother in law's). All 3 pickups did what I asked of them, the F-150 was the best though. I tried tobaggining it off the side of a snowy mountain and but it somehow stayed on the "road". Needed a pry bar to remove the seat from my backside, LOL! My next PU will likely be a Tacoma, 4 door w/a long bed.

Until Last year I took my "good" trucks hunting 04 Cummins, 06 Cummins, 08 Powerstroke and now an 09 F150. They all did fine but last year I bought a 92 Suburban. It's beat up has 242,000 miles and will go anywhere I want it to. The best part is it's payed for and saves the dents and scratches that I would be putting on the trucks I hope to trade in every few years. I now believe the best hunting rig has the following attributes; sacrificial body and paint, room for 7 days worth of gear, room for at least 1 dead animal, room to comfortably sleep in (preferably all three at the same time), a good heater, a stereo and no monthly payments.

What we used to do for antelope scouting and hunting was rent a 4 wheel drive jeep cherokee or liberty or something along those lines. Get it for about 15 bucks a day. Get the extra insurance. Throw a couple thousand miles on it and give it back with poof dirt in every possible crack and crevise on it. Works well for those who dont want to haul an extra vehicle or beat up theirs.

Here's mine, 2004 Dodge 2500, 8,000 lb. Warn winch, 35" mud T/A. This one has a Hemi, the next one will have a Cummins.

The other ranch truck is a 99 Tacoma with the same features of 88

Just added a crewcab Tacoma to the family. Little easier getting more than one person up to the ranch with this truck.

I have a Chevy (yes its a Chevy for you Ford lovers out there) 2500 HD, but it will remain stock. For the cost of tires, winch, lift, and more I can get an el cheapo wheeler for the mountains and be more capable anyways and a souped up full size vehicle, plus then I don't tear up my daily driver. :D

Of course there are my current mountain rigs:

2000 Dakota with magna flows and an intake, nothing special but I got a heck of a deal on it. What are some good chains you guys are runnin? I should probably pick up a set and a come-along before this season starts. Shes gotten me any where I needed to go but I figure I better be safe than sorry.
