Looking at getting a new hunting rig this year. Trying to decide between a proof research elevation or doing the Hells Canyon Tikka barrel swap package. 300 win mag for either. I'll be shooting suppressed when possible. Anyone have experience with either of these options? And no I don't really want to go full custom. I beat my gear up too much and I'm afraid I'd always being thinking about how much it cost. Plus I'm good with sub-moa.

Thanks for the reply. I'm looking hard at the Hells Canyon Tikka build. You provide the action and it gets a carbon barrel, stock, bottom metal, and cerakote. Price is really good

I am doing the tikka package as we speak. Mikes buidlign me a 6.5 saum with the alpine hunter stock. Hoping to have finished weight around 6-6.5 lbs as hoping to throw on a zeiss v6 I have sitting on top of the safe. Cant wait I hear great things about HC builds.

Dang suppressors are killing me. I was perfectly happy with my mountain rigs until I started getting in to suppressors a couple years ago. The lightweight barrels just dont do great with a chunk of metal hanging off the end.

What is your turn around time looking like?

I have two proof barrels on tikka actions. Sendero prefit in 6.5 PRC. Can find anything it wont shoot well and it is a fast barrel. Then I have my mountain rifle - a Sendero light in 300 wsm. 22” tube and intend to shoot it suppressed some of the time. The Sendero light is a bit more finicky than the Sendero but they’re both lasers. Just finished load development with the WSM and am going to throw my suppressor on there to see how it shoots.

I wouldn’t be worried about beating a full custom up, I don’t baby mine and it still looks great, but that said, I agree, go with the semi custom or a good factory option. I doubt I’d ever build another full custom but then again maybe I’ll get the itch. I wouldn’t hesitate to have Mike at HCA build me a tikka semi custom.

Mike's built me 3 tikkas, ranging from 26-23" carbon barrels, two in Mesa altitude stocks and one in a jcs composites. None of them have been lighter than 6.7# this is using ti bolt handles & ti brakes.

If going with a tikka build it will be beneficial in that action to do a 300wsm over a 300 wm. I’m having a Tikka 300wsm/215 bergers built right now with a 26” tube & I believe the finish weight was a bit over 7 lbs. Sounds like wait times for stocks may be effecting turnaround times.

Shoot oh well looks like I will be getting a ti handle as well. 6.5 to 6.7 would still enable me to get a hair under 8.5 or real close to it

What kind of speeds are you getting out of the 22" 300 wsm?

Shooting the Barnes 200 gr LRX and I think my final load will be right around 2830 FPS with H4350. My chamber is throated long and I am loading with a COAL of 3.095”. I am sure I could get some more velocity with RL26 but I haven’t seen it around here for some time. Found a node at 2875 but was getting heavy bolt lift so I backed it off.

My to bolt handles came from sterk, and ti beast brakes Mike has on hand. Or can be ordered from muzzle brakes and more.

thanks I emailed mike yesterday and will hit him up again about paying etc for a ti brake hope he can get one and match contour..just not a fan of the look of a big ol knob on the end of my gun

RL23 is also a great performer in the wsm.
