Most reliable and shootable 9mm semi auto pistols

If your willpower needed a nudge….

Tisas $450 has been very hard for me to ignore. Same price for 5”

That's a great price.

I actually picked up the MAC 9 DS Comp, which is made by Tisas, last week. Put 300 rounds through it over the weekend and so far no real complaints just some nit picky things that I'm starting to work on now. Nothing that actually effects the function of the gun just things like replacing the optic plate screws with better quality ones, playing with different weight recoil springs, and polishing and adjusting the trigger/sear to see just how good/fast/flat I can make it shoot.

That's hard to pass up

What I’ve seen with quite a few Tisas’ is that they tend to work without much fuss. The guts of the gun are pretty solid. They generally need an extractor tweak (easy) to run as they should. With any 9mm 1911 you’ll probably want to try a couple different mags to see which is best.

If that is appealing to you (1911), it would be a very good gun to learn on.

I would personally choose the B9r model. And get-

1). Wilson Bullet proof 9mm extractor.

2). 1x Wilson ETM mag

3). 1x Ed Brown mag

4). 1x Metalform mag.

5). Wilson 20lpi front strap piece.

One of those mags (maybe all) will work well.

@Colby did that, and shot his very well last spring.
I am giving it a go, any double stack mags work well with this set up?

We had a Tisas B9R Double in the store a few weeks ago. I brought in my Staccato P and we did side by side comparison. Very similar (I thought I heard or read they basically reverse engineered the Staccato 🤔 ). The fit/finish on the Tisas was a little rough in spots, like around the barrel link, around the feed ramp. The barrel has a bushing compared to the fitted Bull on the P; the bushing was not a tight precision fit (a little loose like a general 1911). Weight was similar with my Staccato slightly heavier (but it's wearing a red dot also). The magazines with the Tisas were identical to the Staccato mags.

It would have been interesting to shoot them side/side.

Not any since Staccato has their C mags, but Staccato P/Prodigy style 2011 mags work in it.
My limited experience is that the checkmate Tisas branded magazines are better and worth the premium over prodigy magazines. If you can catch the atlas magazines on sale that’s the way to go.

Oh I agree, Checkmate mags are the way to go for cheap reliable 2011 mags. I only included the prodigy in my post because it does use true 2011 mags. I personally would stay away from anything made by Duramag. Sorry if that came across as recommending them.

Do want to update my post about the MAC, put another 150-200 ish rounds through it today after adjusting the sear spring to get a solid 3 lb trigger pull and had 1 hammer follow about half way through. Full disassembly later and I noticed a small burr on the sear face, minor stoning to clean that up and no further issues but I am thinking I might order either a Hamilton TR sear and hammer or an EGW sear and hammer to replace the factory ones.

Most of my experience is with Staccato Gen 3 mags. Those, with Atlas + 18% mag springs are very reliable.
Thanks. Maybe this should be its own thread. I know next to nothing about 1911's or pistols in general, is there a good resource for good general practices, routine maintenance on hand guns or 1911s more specifically? A kin to what you have done with rifles, scopes, and zeroing here? Something straight forward and cuts the bullshit. OP if this is too much clutter for this post I'll start a thread.

It's all good. I plan on continuing to update this thread with my progress in shooting. The more helpful info the merrier.

Is anybody else shooting the drill that Form posted?

I'm shooting a new to me pistol and slumming it in the low 200's.

Most of my pistol shooting the last couple years has been Steel Challenge and all that's required of me is a "ding".

Backing off the black circle on the FBI target out to 25 yards is humbling.

I was gonna do the three target drill. I've been sick the last week and finally got back to work and feeling decent today. Ugh.

Be happy to get to the range.

I may give the FBI shooting test a go this weekend

I’ll be shooting it again soon. Had some Co-workers shoot it. About 12 of us. 4 of us shot in the 280s. The rest of the team was about 245-265. All guys that have at least a couple years carrying and shooting a basic qual. A few have gone through more in-depth classes. 2 of the 4 that shot in the 280s have been through the FBI class that that drill is a prerequisite for. All shot with G45 9mm with Holosun 507c on top.

I plan to do it again soon when I pick up a G19 with Aimpoint COA that should be in the shop this week.

I’ll also shoot the 3-target drill that he described in a later post.

What size is the FBI target at 25 yards?

Edit: And what is the format? I suck at pistol shooting but will be entering some local competitions to improve. Any practice drills that are worthwhile please link them.

The FBI IP-1 is the official target. The NRA B8 is more widely available and is within a tenth of an inch of the same specs.

I think it’s worth starting another thread with drill related stuff. I think I just may do that now.
