Back in the day when I did such things my favorites were Elijah Craig and Bowman Brothers from Virginia. Bowman has a slight, almost cherry taste to it. Elijah was leathery and a bit bolder (to me). I didn’t ever feel the need to pay more.

I love Weller, but thought the single barrel was terrible. Really disappointed with that one. But 107 is probably my favorite next to EH.

Any of the old forester stuff is overrated in my opinion.

Lil Book I thought was terrible.

New Riff is not great either.

From this thread, I’ve gathered most of you guys don’t have the pallet for anything buffalo trace distillery (buffalo trace, eagle rare, Blantons, EH Taylor, and Pappy).

I do agree that pappy isn’t worth what people pay for it second hand. EH Taylor small batch is probably my favorite BT product. Eagle Rare is hard to beat for the money.

Concur! These are “bourbons”! A lot of stuff has been marketed as bourbon to meet the pallet of those who “want” to be a part of the bourbon craze!

Bookers is one I think didn't really meet the hype for me. A fine whiskey but price/effort here didn't match the taste. Now anything Knob Creek, that's a different story.

I agree that Buffalo Trace products are overhyped. Buff Trace itself is fine for what it is, a <$30 whiskey but that doesn't mean it needs to be allocated or heavily overpriced.

You have to note though that lil book is never the same year to year, so it can be hit and miss.
