I was in Montana and actually the Great Falls area when it was happening as my sister who lives on a ranch south of there called to find some 22mag bird shot and they were the only place that had it in town. When she said she'd be there shortly they said we can't sell you anything we are in an audit...Then locals started texting and messaging back and forth once they found out what was going on.

I don't trust the government much and basically 0% with this admin. But having a state audit then the IRS and ATF show up...is a bit more than just a random ass encounter. Along with the other two previous interactions. Not saying any action by either party is right or wrong but I highly doubt this was a lets raid a random shop to make a point situation.

I think there are two things going on here:

1) The Feds are compiling a "list" which they think will be of use to them in the future. Anyone who bought a gun from there is now on that list, along with any other name they can glean from whatever else was seized. Having a list will make things move much quicker in the future, just like when you go shopping.

2) Much like Trump, they found an individual to persecute and are searching for a crime to charge him with. That said, the owner (again, much like Trump) has an attitude that doesn't do him any favors when dealing with the feds. I've been to that store recently. He has a sign at the door that says something like, "BY ENTERING THIS STORE YOU'RE NOW ON A GOVERNMENT WATCH LIST" or something similar. He's the most prominent "middle finger" being raised at the feds in Cascade County right now, so much of this comes as no surprise given the DOJ's current agenda.

They'll find something to ramrod him through the federal courts with, you can count on that.

To your first point...IMO...if you have bought a gun from a FFL you are already on a list. If they want to compile a list it is going to take them decades if they go this route of picking off 1 small gun shop here and there. Then on top of that the day after they leave the gun shop continues business creating more records that they would then have to come and take again.

2) I agree completely. Doesn't make it wrong or right but some people draw undo attention to themselves. I would say Cascade county is very anti government interference....and being the in upper echelon of that county (which is saying something) and as you say " most prominent middle finger" isn't going to help that. As I mentioned before my sister lives in Cascade and from the chatter from the locals in the couple days I was their during the raid and after gives one a pretty good idea on the general populations stance up there.
