Ok so I'm being lazy. Since I constantly hear certain CO residents (not all by any means) bitching about how crowded it gets, I figure I'll start applying in Montana since it's been on my bucket list anyways. Anyone have any honey holes They want to splatter all over the internet? ;)

Seriously though, how much time do you guys dedicate to deer vs elk when you hunt Montana. I am seriously thinking about Montana after I hopefully burn my CO points next year. And how hard is Montana to draw? And what is the griz situation really like in Montana?

You can check off NW Montana if you want to actually kill a muley or an elk. Great area for wolf tracks tho.

Depends on how much time you have...obviously elk hunting you could always run into a deer. But, most places that guys would go to focus on deer you probably won't see an elk or it is a special draw unit (i.e. eastern and northern MT.) Buy a point and you shouldn't have a problem drawing.

Griz depends on where you are. I can tell you a guided for 5 years and only saw 3 Griz a sow and 2 cubs. 1 other guide saw a young boar. That was a few years ago now but that was in the Gravelly Range where a couple attacks have occurred this year. Keep a clean camp and chances are very slim in most areas of running into one. Some areas its not if but when you see/run into one still doesn't mean you will have a problem with one.

Our group dedicates our time to elk and will shoot a good deer if we see one. We have shot 2 deer in 6 trips to MT. We hunt a bear area but pretty low density and have never seen one. If you're going into the Tom Miner basin it could be a problem!
