Didn’t draw my Montana tag so I’m currently looking at the CO secondary draw tags as my plan B. My question- how many of you have had success picking up two or more tags with your buddies? Conflicted because I don’t want us to put in and only 1 of us draw but I understand it’s a random draw. I know some units will have a high number of tags left, some upwards of 20. Just not sure how popular the secondary draw is and how hard it is to get a tag in any unit.

Thanks

I personally wouldn't drive 8 hours from Nebraska let alone 16+ hours from Indiana and take all that time off work, away from family, etc for one of the second choice tags. There's a reason they're leftover - but if you and our buddy really want to hunt just apply. Its really ok to take off and help your buddy fill a tag even though you don't have one.

I know youth snatch up the good tags but I'm not sure about the 2nd choice - you'll have to check out last years draw statistics on the CPW website for that.

What part of Nebraska are you from? I’ve spent a decent amount of time hunting around Whiteclay and Hay springs.

You can look up the secondary draw recap from last year and get an idea. If it’s halfway decent youth will wipe them out, if you want a doe tag for private land then your odds are really good.

I’d argue more than one tag is unrealistic. And in reality even a single tag is fairly difficult. You’d have better luck in the leftover list, but again very unlikely to get more than one tag and even one is tough there too.

I’m not sure I agree with the comment of any tag on the list is crap so save your time for elsewhere….if I’m not mistaken some folks can turn in tags, they aren’t just tags that no one wanted (things happen in folks lives….agree likely won’t find the top hunt in the state on there).

Again, low (very low) probably of success though.

Agreed with posts above re: secondary draw... Most residents without a kid in the hunt don't even consider them.

Your best best (and it's a bet) is landing a returned tag in August. But as stated, getting one would be a win.

Just the type of feedback I was looking. Kind of what I was assuming. Appreciate it
